And we’re back. The holidays are over and we’ve been at work for two weeks, but a big part of me is still in Africa enjoying all the wonderful things that we encountered there. Don’t worry; I kept a journal of what happened.
We arrived back in Saudi on Thursday afternoon after an overnight flight from Cape Town to Dubai, and then Dubai to Bahrain, where we were met by friends willing to drive us back into Saudi (after stopping for beer and lunch first). Kirsty and I had no complaints about that. We had friends looking after the cats so they weren’t as put out as they normally are when we go on leave and they didn’t give us the cold shoulder at tall. In fact, they refused to leave our sight for most of the weekend.
As per usual I didn’t sleep on the flight. I tried; it just didn’t happen. Kirsty got a few hours so she was a bit more refreshed than I was. Friends had planned a BBQ for that night so we managed to wander over to their villa for some food and stories, and then got back home and practically went straight to bed.
We managed to do all of our holiday laundry, sort out our gifts for people, and put stuff away in record time. Normally after a vacation we tend to procrastinate about putting stuff away and it usually lies around wherever we’ve unpacked it for a couple of weeks. Not this time. Weird, I know. I wanted to get online and check in here but our Internet provider had problems with their network so that was a no go.
During the course of the trip we took over 3000 photos and videos that we’ll have to save on our computer, sort through, and then alter so I can post them when I do the day-by-day account of the trip here. I haven’t forgotten that I said I would do that. It just might be a week or so before I’m ready to a complete job. Our Internet is acting up and uploading photos has been difficult. I don’t want to half-ass it or anything. That kind of attitude to this blog and other writing has to stop. And it will.
Hopefully this vacation has given me a new attitude and a new lease on creativity. We ended the tour in Cape Town, and Kirsty and I spent 5 extra nights there. Cape Town is a very creative city with a great vibe and atmosphere. Artists, writers, musicians all thrive in the city. You kind of soak up the ambiance and energy when you’re there. I hope enough of it stuck in my pores and came home with me. I guess only time will tell but I do feel better about things and am willing to put other things aside as I concentrate on writing again.
I’ll try and get the photos ready for posting as soon as I can and start telling you all about the trip. That’s if you want to hear it? I guess if you don’t, you won’t read it. And I’m cool with that. In the meantime, I hope everyone is happy and healthy and having no problems with creativity.
Cheers

Welcome back!

Tor - While I didn't go to Zimbabwe I do remember all the talks I had with her when I went to Africa in 2008. And I had to drag Kirsty back to Saudi.
i look forward to the photos and reading about the trip.
It took a while to adjust when we returned from the US earlier this year, but real life soon kicks in. Having a netbook to store and sort photos along the way was a real bonus however.
Of course we're interested! I look forward to the pics and commentary as only you can write it.
