For the uninitiated, the Master's Tournament at Augusta is one of Men's Golf's 4 major tournaments. It starts Thursday and it is Tiger Woods' first major tournament since his knee surgery and the birth of his son.
Tiger's back, and we'll all be watching him. Love him or not, he's a helluva golfer who keeps his focus. Most of the Masters' stories are about the Cinderella's... the teenagers in the field Lee, McIlroy and Ishikawa... Or the comeback, Norman and his superstar wife Chris Evert. (Or as a lout at the Kraft Nabisco said, "that tennis chick...") Or even the guys who've never won but come close...
As a psychologist, the really interesting issue is the mental fortitude it takes to win. Oh yeah, these guys have to have the shots, and they all do. But to hold together hole after hole for all 4 days... THAT'S the story! It's really a unique combination of positive thinking, concentration skills, focus and competition, all applied with laser accuracy. This has to happen while planning your way strategically around the course, ignoring he rivalries, crowds, and lunkheads ("GET IT IN THE HOOOOLLLE") .
Who will meltdown first? Lefty? Sergio? Will Rocco be as strong? (Hope so!) Will Snedeker come back strong or jinxed? I am hoping for a neck-in-neck horse race, where every hole is a thrill.
