What this country is lacking is gratitude.

If there's one thing that makes me sick it's all this talk of 'lazy poor' and 'evil unions'.

What these self-appointed guardians of our country fail to realize is that these were the people that helped build this country.

These were some of the people who were being so mistreated by the corporations that they worked for that they ganged together and formed unions to protect themselves from the rampant cruelty and callousness of the managers and owners.

The fought for guards on the equipment. They fought for fair work rules. They fought for a living wage. They fought for the ability to actually get ahead and not have to essentially pay all of their earnings back to the 'company store'.

These were the people that were willing to stand for 8 hours and install lug nuts on the wheels of cars five days a week. They were the people that built the bridges and paved the roads. They were the people that 'got 'er done' when it had to get done.

And yet, now, the likes of famous philanthropists like Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck are kicking the working poor and the poor around like they are yesterday's garbage.

The 'can do' attitude in this country lifted all of us out of the depression and two world wars. That same attitude, if given a chance against the march of jobs overseas, can do it again.

Most of these people that are on unemployment DID have a job. That job isn't there any longer and the reason it's gone is probably do in some small part by the politicians that Fox News supports.

We need a little gratitude. The rich that got their money from 'industry' need to thank God that people were willing to work in their hell holes in the first place and then be damn glad that they and other 'captains of industry' were paying their employees a 'living wage'. A wage that allowed for the purchase of other items than food, gas, and medicine.

For if there were never such a radical idea of a 'living wage', I doubt highly that there would be nearly as many idle rich now demanding their tax cuts.

We need to thank the workers of this country. The upper-class need to realize that much of the root of their money has to do with the direct interaction of others.

America used to be 'The World's Market'. How is it possible that the very core of the country that allowed America to rise to that level would be sold to others to supplant this country as the leader.

If anything, the captains of industry should be damn grateful that their employees don't storm their gated communities and rip them from their imported leather furniture and gold plated plumbing fixtures and grueling days of golf and beat them with their own egos.

Be grateful.

And to those 'religious' people who are declaring war on the poor and unemployed:

"And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you ...did it to me.’"

I am so grateful you posted this reminder for all and all who did not see are losing out.
And this goes for people in the medical field too. I have many friends that work at hospitals and they are often treated like shit. Sworn at, spit on, kicked, bitten, coughed on... It just seems to go on and on...

Specialists make the 'bog money' and probably should but are usually solid red republican/libertarians. Often the nurses and techs that people come in contact with more are not earning a whole hack of a lot of money and are there to help you when you need it, not your punching bag to take out your lack of manors. This goes for police too.

Restaurant employees too. I'm sure that if they had the choice of being an idle rich slacker sitting on a beach in the South of France, they'd take it but they work their asses off feeding people and don't need the rudeness and lack of compassion. They also often live off the tips because they are paid less to compensate for them. Tip them. Help them out when you can.

People driving too. I've been honked at and cut off and sworn at and showered with more sign language since I got a Prius then at any other time in my life. I'm peddling as fast as I can folks. If it's a five lane highway then why get up my ass and honk and yell. Be calm. We'll all get there sooner or later. Heck, if you're already late yelling at me isn't going to change that jack wagon...

Be nice out there. It's hard enough trying to survive...

Off the soapbox...
I'm with you, man. Seems like folks get a little money, they turn Red. Not good for the planet. Happy New Year!
