Awesome Parenting 101
Nothing says I am an awesome parent like McDonalds for the baby. Except maybe advertising the fact by taking a photo AND posting it on the internet. Success!
I am a Stay at Home Mother and I am Surprised
Every now and then I read something awesome about a mother reclaiming herself from the expectations of motherhood and pursuing her dreams and I am surprised that I don’t feel the same way.
I read about the lack of mental stimulation, the mind numbing domesticity and all the things… Read full post »
Anyway
Floyd Against the World
You know what makes Floyd ‘frisky’. Frisy is the kind word, but what it actually looks like is freaking crazy.
Shoe laces
Blinds
Bags
Coils
Princess dresses
Beds which people are sleeping in
Paper on the wall
Anything hanging, anywhere
Tulle of any kind
Butter
Most food, really

Heaven is . . .
This week Riley got the newsbag at preschool. That means that she gets to put something in the newsbag to take in for show and tell. Which means she gets to talk to the whole class about one of her favourite things and why it’s special.
She chose a dragon… Read full post »
Looks Like
Riley starts alot of sentences with ‘looks like’. I must say it more often than I realise. But my personal favourite is when she is cuddling me. ‘Looks like I must love you’. I’m glad she’s so certain.
False Alarm
This morning I thought I was pregnant. This afternoon I know I’m not thanks to the gift of a highly accurate pregnancy test.
I didn’t even know what I was hoping for when I did the test. I really want to be not pregnant for New York. Somehow not being… Read full post »
Lego. The Toy That Keeps On Giving.
The other day Riley was watching the Cartoon Network. There was some lego animation on. Maybe it was Star Wars Lego. I’m not sure, I tend to tune out the sound of the TV whenever possible. But all of a sudden I hear excited squealing from the little person on… Read full post »
School Readiness Test
FAIL.
I’m thinking that when she can get to the end of three days of preschool and not pass out from sheer exhaustion then she might be ready for school.
But I’m glad she’s not ready. This is precious time between her and me, but also her and Piper. Once… Read full post »
First Steps
The day before yesterday Piper took her first tentative steps.
Yesterday she took a few more steps. Some were on purpose. Some she did when she wasn’t paying attention and just forgot to hang on.
Once she starts walking around I will probably have to accept the fact that she… Read full post »
The Things You Dislike About Yourself
It’s funny how the things you dislike about yourself are reflected back to you in a little person and you don’t dislike those things any more. I hate my freaking mad hair. But I love it on her.
She’s a Thinker
Personal Blogs are . . . Personal
If people misinterpret what you write, it’s usually the fault of the writer who has failed in their expression of their intent. You don’t go around blaming readers for misunderstanding, any more than you blame someone for having the audacity to get offended when you get your foot… Read full post »
Attack of the Bobble Heads
I don’t know where they came from. But they are everywhere. They have cars, they have houses. Their heads bobble. I have not purchased a single one of them but they are invading my house. The Googy LOVES them, worships the ground they walk on. Although incidentally, I’m not sure… Read full post »
Look Familiar?
A surprising amount of clothes survived through Riley’s babyhood. Some are even still white. A fact that amazes me since I always seem to forget the bib part of the feeding. So there’s a whole lot of Riley’s clothes that the Squishy is making her way through now. Because the… Read full post »
The Ballerina Starts Gymnastics
We have decided to have a few terms away from swimming and do some other activities during the cooler months and it came down to a choice between dancing and gymnastics. I was surprised that the Googy picked gymnastics. But after her first lesson she was a wee bit devastated… Read full post »
Constant Movement
This is the challenge of photographing children. They are constantly moving. And I’m not a great photographer so it would be much easier for me if they would just stay still. But they don’t. Riley is in perpetual motion. It is a testament to my camera more than to me… Read full post »
Every Now and Then
Every now and then I take a photo that makes me think ‘holy crap! She is not a baby anymore!’ This is one of those photos
I Don’t Believe in Can’t, I Believe in Won’t
{Image via here}
I believe that 99.9 percent of the time when people say ‘can’t’ what they mean is ‘won’t’. I believe that most of the time when you want to give up, what you need to do is push harder. I believe that sheer force of will is more… Read full post »
Pose
It is so easy to tell when Riley is posing and when she’s not. Here, she is definitely posing. And she’s thinking I wonder how much longer I have to stand here for?
12 Creative Cakes
I was pretty happy with my cake effort this year, but it doesn’t mean that I’m not constantly collecting creative arsenal for when my baking skills catch up. Ok, my baking skills will never reach this level. But a girl can dream, right?
Mad Style
Exhibit A. Mad style in progress. Also mad mess she has created and mad mess I have failed to clean up in the kitchen. But mostly mad style. But she looks pretty happy. That’s all I really care about.
Dinosaur Birthday Cake
When it came to making a dinosaur themed cake for the girls’ birthday I knew I didn’t have the sculpting skills for a dinosaur shaped cake and I didn’t have the funds to get a professional to do it for me. So I compromised (I know. I’m reeling from the… Read full post »
Self Styling
I embrace Riley choosing what she wears, even if sometimes it looks a bit like a bag full of crazy. Because I figure it is one step closer to her doing all of her own dressing. Because I freaking hate doing it, with a passion. The dithering, the game playing,… Read full post »
I’m Going
In a matter of months I’ll be there. On my own dime. Which is a small miracle given we had to spend more money than I ever want to think about on car repairs.
Mr Goog is in full itinerary planning mode.
I’m ignoring the fact… Read full post »
