Remember 2010? When a couple of dipsticks standing menacingly in front of a voter station, claiming to be members of the almost-non-existent New Black Panther Party started up another crow-fest in the conservative media? It still hasn’t died down. The conservabots were claiming that blacks were doing their best—with two people!—to skew the vote. Come to think of it, I've never heard such cackling in my life. The conservabots were so loud about it they commited fraud just to stop ACORN from registering voters. And they succeeded.
Now the reactionary movement is going to address what they claim is cheating at the voting booth. The Tea Party-bred organization “True the Vote”, an effort better described as “Screw The Vote”, is vowing to send millions of observers to voting stations across the US in order to ensure nobody is pretending to be somebody else.
In other words, the True the Vote effort is pretty much the same thing the two New Black Panther Party members did—times millions.
That’s right. At about the same time the Republican Party across the country has done every single thing it humanly can to force voter IDs onto Americans who often do not have either the money or the ability to obtain voter IDs, and at about the same time that many progressive organizations have challenged this “new Jim Crow” taking America like a storm front, here comes the tepid Tea Party Nazi boys and girls, ready to play like Chuck Norris at a voting booth near you.
Ain’t it grand? If you can’t get away with skewing the 2012 presidential contest with unnecessary voter ID laws (it’s been said many times that you have a better chance of being struck by lightning than being victimized by voter fraud), well, well, well: Why not commit voter intimidation drives?
When you go to vote, don’t be surprised some Teabilly is gonna be nearby, perhaps even breathing down your neck, trying to get you to “spill the beans” that your name really isn’t what your voter registration form says it is.
In the early 1930s, Nazi cohorts did pretty much the same thing. They intimidated people into complying with their will. What’s especially alarming about True the Vote is that it’s backed by the same plutocrats who both formed the Tea Party and are filling our airwaves with filthy ad-buys in order to put their thumbs on the scale.
Jesus! What’s even more alarming is that these people aren’t apologizing for what is an obvious attempt at voter intimidation. They’ve decided they are the law and no matter what the government decides regarding either voter IDs or other Republican-led tactics designed to keep blacks, Latinos, young people, elderly and disabled people from voting for Obama, they’ve been called—by whom? Dick Armey? God? Perhaps David Duke?—to enforce voter fairness.
Yes, this is another episode of Black is White, Love is Hate and Wrong is Right. In America.
Boy, I can’t wait to go vote this time. If anyone other than a police officer steps forward, asking to see my ID, I’m going to call them what they are: Nazis. The Tea Party is a threat to our democracy, not a solution to a problem that doesn’t even exist
