I walked to the local market which had advertised inexpensive whole chickens. Found two of those. The kids wanted soda pop so I located some eight-ounce cans of the types they wanted. Kid #2 wanted Yoplait brand yogurt. This market had the sharp Cheddar cheese I like (on sale!). What else? Some broccoli (I love broccoli), two bags of Three Musketeers Halloween mini-candy bars.
Paid for those items and loaded them into my two mesh bags. I'd bought these for a VW bus trip to Baja California one July long ago... great bags, black, some kind of tactical nylon...
Anyway. On to Trader Joe's. Bought some mixed grapes, an onion, some cream for coffee and a bottle of cheap wine. Added these things to my mesh bags. Headed for home.
Weighed the bags when I got home and the total was 33 pounds. More than I'd guessed.
Living without a vehicle seems do-able. This initial hunting-gathering session was successful.
Ordered a bunch of stuff off the web, found World's Best Cat Litter at an Amazon Prime rate (ie, free shipping on 34 pounds of cat litter), ordered some shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, essential oils to add to the laundry... quite a few standard grocery items I'd otherwise have had to tote home. Ordered a gallon jug of Dr. Bronner's liquid soap at half the price of what I'd been paying for smaller containers from the local health food store.
Overall a pretty satisfying day as far as shopping went. Shopping plus laundry plus dishes equals my life.
My keyboard is slowly fading... I no longer have an equal sign key. Or an up or a right arrow key. Hmm. Might have to address than sooner than later. Hard to write any HTML without an equal sign key.
