Where Have All the Salon Heroes Gone?

Rate: 2 Flag

I heard a story that some wizened, broken down Princeton economics professor had blogged something outrageous about 9/11 to stimulate (or is it "jolt" now?) interest in him and that the blog, reportedly poorly written even on a purely language level, had found its way into the New York Times.

Because I tend to avoid groups that are so small in number as to raise questions about their motives, I'm not a reader of the Times.  But the name Paul Krugman rang a bell, so I went to Salon and Open Salon to find a report if not a defense.  As of now, there is neither.

Add to that the absence of any defense in the OS world of Obama's twin embarrassments about passing a bill right away and I'm left with the impression that O and OS are an ungrateful lot.  Whatever happened to "in for a penny, in for a pound"?

I guess when the clay feet have liquified into mud, slinging that mud at others is all that's LEFT to do.

How long have you been on Open Salon? It is an arm of the Democratic party, maybe even officially. Just bear in mind that Republicans can do no right (is that a pun?) and you will fit in here and be rewarded with Editor's Picks.
Or is it in for a Euro in for a kilogram...?

Bullies, facists and cowards who are afraid to use their real name when they sling their mud and spit their venom. Yeah, that's the progressive, enlightened left.

Krugman is a certifiable, Nobel prize winning loon... invaders from Mars, indeed.

The liberals are receding back under their rocks from whence they came to have their own “Crying Club”, due to not being able to fight the Truth told. Have you noticed everyone staying away lately? Their tactics are if they do not respond to you, you will give up and leave. They started by trying to convince us to go to their side of the political spectrum. When that did not work, they resorted to hate and threat tactics. When that did not work, they are resorting to the “Silent Treatment”. Basically, Salon liberal members are saying that they are not going to come out and play anymore because we refuse to be brainwashed by their ideology.

For me, that does not matter. I will still be, and defiantly so, a “Voice in the Wilderness” yelling out the Truth about liberal progressives and their evil agenda.
Thanks to all of you for your insightful comments.

I do believe that as Obama slips in terms of coherence, ideology, ethics, and integrity (not to mention the polls), his ancient supporters will have no choice but to become attack dogs against those who threaten their tenure.

Through eternal diligence and exposing commentary I hope that we will all do our duty to bring about a brighter day.
Gordon, you dismay me. You and your ilk scarcely rise to the level of loyal opposition. You all put me in mind of that most wretched of creatures, the pip-squeak.
Short comment, perhaps ill-advised, but "wotthehey". I just checked Scanner's recent post and saw it combined many of the themes we've all been batting around about government policies & etc. with two ancillary comments about his mom and his mother-in-lwa, one of whom has Alzheimers. It was a bit of ?"a double whammy"? for me to find these two topics in one post. Because, you see, I'm the toss-it-off "age Alzheimer" category (not yet so diagnosed and will probably die of something else first) and still -- after years of on-and-off effective or ineffective political activism, hoping to be able to have a word or an effectiveness here or there about all the political issues being discussed on Open Salon. [The other side of the group: the I-am-a-writer group, are also friends of mine, for a variety of reasons.]

Some of these most recent political exchanges leave me [Alzheimers age?] pretty disturbed ... because though I don't have Alzheimers (and don't expect to) my current political activism is altogether too much restricted (so I used to think) to typing into a computer keyboard. I think that leaves me quite as frustrated as a lot of (if I may?) "you youngsters" ;-) when it comes to reading points of view we may not agree with. I say to myself that typing into a computer keyboard wasn't what earlier years I thought was a means of effective sociopolitical argument or effective political action. But then I think about all the Internet is reported (however inaccurately or accurately) to have accomplished, positively and effectively in the context of what's now being called "the Arab spring" ... and so I come back to keyboard punchings. ;-( :-)

Looking forward to future discussions on this post!
Whirlwind ( cute name for a gasbag, eh? ) .... should certainly know about pip squeaks since they are lead by one. Or is that pin head... Well, it's some kind of head, anyway.
SGH, having difficulty determining the difference between led and lead are you? Or do you even know there is a difference? I mean we can't quite chalk that one up to hooked on phonics can we. Or perhaps it's the tense aspect of it all that eludes you.
Krugman was spot on, of course. I didn't feel the need to comment on Krugman's post on the political exploitation of 9/11, having recently done my own. Don't fret, 9/11 obsessives, the First Anniversary Of The Tenth Anniversary Of 9/11 is less than a year away.
There do still seem to be a few of the old reliables left on OS with whom you can always pick a fight- (which can be fun), but what I find myself doing lately is more and more "social work" through my church- feeding people who truly need it is a wonderful way to convince them that they need to rely on themselves and their friends and neighbors rather than federal government.

We are right, but I am right because it is the moral Christian way to be- Godless Capitalism is as bad or worse than Godless Communism. Don't be too hard on the lefties here, some of them actually might be able to be "converted" to an understanding of the meaning of free will and the rights of each individual to pursue Life, Liberty, and Happiness without a Nanny State to make the rest of us go along with them. "Social Justice" is an oxymoron, justice is always felt and dealt by an individual- so we must be sure to show how true individual justice and compassion work. But it is true that it's getting harder and harder to find a good fight around here.
Hi Gordon,

I appreciate your voice here. I disagree with your characterization of the "left," however.

As for Krugman's post, the content and timing were superb. Kairotic moxie, what we need more of from the "left."

Catch you around the Salon. :)
