Benghazigate and Sandy—Obama’s Selective Activism
Obama’s stern admonishment to his team to push reservation and restraint aside and to plow forward cutting red tape and removing bureaucratic obstacles all in the service of saving and/or serving the victims of Sandy is in stark contrast to his passive aggressive conduct toward those who recently died in the service to their country in Benghazi.
Had the Obama plan in Benghazi been applied to the East Coast, all relief efforts would have been deferred until the federal government had a chance to hold hearings to assess the damages, to determine ways and means of preventing another natural disaster, and to determine the cause of this one—tsunami, global warming, cloud salting, whatever. Al Gore would be called as a star witness.
It’s painful to see Obama shift into overdrive when doing so serves his campaign objectives whereas he sits on his ass and concocts fictions about mobs and videos when events that are as plain as the nose on Panetta’s face are politically inconvenient.
By the way, exactly what is Obama doing about Sandy that warrants such press attention and praise. He travels, gives speeches, and authorizes the expenditure of other people’s money. In other words, business as usual. It’s sad to see this “effort” being assisted by Chris Christie, who is still smarting over not being selected as VP candidate by Romney.
Bloomberg was smarter in uninviting Obama to visit NYC and asking him to concentrate on New Jersey. As Krauthammer delightfully observed, Bloomberg managed to dis both Obama and New Jersey in a single sentence.
