If you want to try yoga at home, all you need is a sticky mat, really. They're available in all kinds of places for all kinds of prices. Beginners might want to get a thicker mat, so you have more padding for your hands, knees and back, and if you're over 5'10" you might want to get an extra long mat to accommodate your comparatively wider stance.
You can buy videos - I recommend Rodney Yee and Shiva Rea, as they've been instrumental in inspiring and helping me develop my own home practice over the years through their excellent videos, and they have DVDs for all levels of practitioner. But you can also download videos for free, either through your computer or via podcast to your iPod or iPhone.
Here's some resources for free yoga videos and podcasts:
- Yoga Journal TV
- Yoga Journal Podcasts (also available in iTunes)
- Yoga on YouTube (whoa! lots. YMMV.)
- Yoga-Poses.com
- Yoga podcasts on iTunes... there so many to subscribe to I can't really list them all here... just search "yoga" in the iTunes store and you'll have your pick of the lot.
