I just don't know if I did the right thing.
I was out mushroom hunting in a small wooded area in the next county when I discovered a puppy following me.
I was somewhat fearful because I figured where there's a puppy, there's a mommy not far behind. And she'll fight to protect her little one.
But no mommy showed up. And this little puppy with its chubby legs raced to keep up with me, crossing brooks, climbing over trees, and sliding through thorny blackberries.
When I got to the car, it nestled itself under my car. By then I had decided if it followed me all the way to the car, I would take it home with me.
So with a little stretching and pulling, I was able to drag Poochie from under to inside my car. He curled up in a ball in the backseat scared to death.
Once home I gave him a bath. He shivered as he ate his first meal, and his pointed tail thumped repeatedly on the ground.
This little black ball of fur is shy, so determined, yet so dependent on humans.
Will that human be me?
