Make no mistake about it. I am not in favor J.D. Hayworth nor any other political candidate of his Tea Party ilk becoming a duly elected member of any body that represents my interests. However, I cannot help but root for Hayworth in his bid to unseat the Original "I never said I was a" Maverick, John McCain. My reasons are many, but all the reasons pale in comparison to the fact that he unleashed upon us that harpy from the north and continues to be unapologetic about doing so.

McCain’s blatant flip-flop on practical solutions to Arizona’s perceived illegal immigration problem and repeal of the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell military policy–in the event the generals on the ground deem it the right thing to do–show his hypocrisy and lack of moral character. Regardless of his, or even my or your, positions on these and other issues, one thing that we probably all agree with is that if you have articulated a position you should remain faithful to that position. While it is fair to change your mind, it is not acceptable to change your mind simply because some failed and disgraced former elected official–turned radio talk show host–turned teabagger is gaining on you in the polls. J.D. Hayworth is misguided and should be exposed as such, not one-upped. John McCain, where is that honorable man that many of your supporters came to respect and support back before the 2000 election cycle?

Since President Obama was sworn into office McCain has sometimes lead the charge in attacks on his approach to the economy, healthcare, terrorism, disaster relief and even date night with the Missus. Hell, McCain and his cohorts on the right have been relentless in their attacks on the president who, despite constant opposition, has managed to lead the stock market rebound (the DJIA back up to nearly 11,000 from a low of nearly 5,000); an about-face in the jobless rate (shifting from an excess of 700,000 jobs per month lost to nearly 300,000 jobs gained in the most recent job loss report); and setting us on a track to undo years of constitutional abuse from the previous administration. We are regaining our respected position in the world and are again being emulated because we returned to our constitutional roots as laid out by our founding fathers (minus the institutionalized discrimination, of course).

Meanwhile, John McCain has proven himself to be wildly out of touch with reality and I shutter at the thought that he was within striking distance of the White House. I can only imagine continuing life with those pesky multi-colored terror alerts or cowboy-esque threats to “Bomb, bomb, bomb-bomb, bomb, Iran.” With the reprehensible way some of our global neighbors behave, as president, McCain surely would have met their behavior with incessant blustering reminiscent of the windbag known as Rush Limbaugh. And that simply is not the answer. Somehow McCain seems determined to reduce himself to the looneyness of Glenn Beck and that nut’s idol, Limbaugh.

At this point I am so sick of McCain, who should have lost gracefully and honored the words he so eloquently stated in his 2008 presidential concession speech. How nice would it have been if he actually meant those words? Instead, he continues to ramble like the old crotchety neighbor who hides in the bushes to turn on the sprinkler when the neighborhood children dare to come near his lawn. McCain is a crazy old coot who needs to just go and fan Cindy on hot Arizona days. Unfortunately, the Republic alternative is J.D. Hayworth.

On a good note, Hayworth represents the Tea Party element. While they are a force that should not be ignored, they too are a bunch of looney tunes who reflect the ideology of the far right wing of the Republican Party. Eventually, they will be pushed back by serious republicans as they increasingly cannibalize the party. Just ask Charlie Crist of Florida and Bob Bennett of Utah how that feels. When the downfall of the Tea Party happens the byproduct will be that they will take Sister Sarah down with them.

Sarah Palin has become such a caricature of herself that she must have trouble identifying the woman she sees in the mirror. She lays in wait until an opportunity to pounce presents itself then she springs into action by making some outlandish statement from behind some shielded perch. Her brilliance is that she does her pontificating in a way that protects her from being questioned thus she never has to substantiate a thing that comes out of her mouth. Like Eyjafjallajökull, the Icelandic volcano, Sarah spews waste into the air that is harmful and costly to mitigate. And like the BP Gulf Coast oil spill, we won’t really know the full extent of the damage for years to come.

The sad fact is that John McCain brought us this train wreck on a silver platter. And while he rarely has to deal with her, we are all forced to feel the after effects of this toxic McCain decision whenever she decides she needs to add a buck or two to her coffers. Thanks a lot John. For that lapse in judgment and your many other transgressions, you deserve to lose your seat in the Senate. And clearly you are comfortable with having senility and your choice of Sarah Palin as your legacy after a lifetime of commendable service to your country. If you are ready to go away, you have my vote!

I dont live in AZ, but I'm with you on this one. JM didnt have the cojones to stand up to Limpballs demand that he take on sister Sarah ~ not the courage of his convictions to take Lieberman.
He deserves an ignomious retirement. He should just go putter around one of Cindys many houses and get lost in them.
he might have been president, only the usa chose even worse. and behind dubya was cheney. are you really happy to be presented with a choice of two, when 'new king time' rolls round?

considering the character of the men political parties choose to be their leader, is this really good enough in the twenty first century?

maybe you could get better results by putting in a hat the names of all citizens native born over 45 and under 60, and letting the lottery machine choose a new king. couldn't be worse.
