Congratulations to Chelsea and Marc and Hillary and Bill!
I don’t normally blog about such immaterial events, but since I watched Chelsea Clinton grow up, I feel entitled to care about her nuptials today. I am happy for her. I am happy that in a world of political one-upsmanship, her parent’s political foes didn’t find a way to spoil the occasion. I’ve had weeks of sleepless nights wondering if John Boehner would rent out all the tanning booths in the greater New York area, leaving Chelsea (and Snooki) too pale to be seen in public. Or perhaps Sharron Angle would call a press conference and then run away creating a media frenzy, causing a logistical nightmare for the Secret Service.
But alas, the wedding seemed to go off without a hitch and we have yet another left-wing couple who did things the way conservatives claim they should be done. Chelsea’s parents were married before she was born, and they remain married, presumably ‘til death do they part. Chelsea completed her education and was then courted by her intended for years. Now they have wed prior to procreating. What a concept.
And this we juxtapose against that other couple from the north, who announced they were getting married two weeks ago, 18 months after the birth of their child. Now, we’re told that their wedding is cancelled because he, the paragon of Playgirl virtue, may have impregnated his ex-girlfriend, who is also past-BFF of the bride (until the bride stole the aforementioned centerfold). If only they could practice what they preach, or at least stop preaching, we could all get along. But I guess that wouldn’t make for good reality TV.
Congratulations Chelsea and Marc on this giant step and your new lives. But more than that…thank you for helping to Illustrate that family values are shared by those on both sides of the wedding aisle.
