SCOTUS and the trampling of the 1st Amendment

Rate: 0 Flag

Last week the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that in essence corporations are real people and as such have the same rights to 1st Amendment protections as individuals.

Freedome of speech is no longer free!

I believe in Capitalism and the free market system. I don't as some believe that the market shouldn't be regulated, but I respect their beliefe but corporations are not individuals and shouldn't be afforded the same rights as such.

Capitalism is an economic system; it is NOT a system of governance. By availing corporations the rights of individuals, SCOTUS in essence has now allowed a small group of people ENORMOUS power over the governance of our nation.

Regardless of if you believe Obama is a statist or socialist, fascist or communist, this ruling has NOTHING to do with that.  This ruling has everything to do with taking an individual right afforded to real people and giving that right not to people, but to an entity.

Those who see in the immediate political climate and think that with this ruling businesses can now back pro-bussiness canidate, in the mistaken belief that Obama is anti-bussiness, need to look past Obama and see this in the greater context of country.

Our Founding Fathers, fought a revolution against an entity, the King, and one of the most basic tenants of the formation of the United States was government for the people, by the people.

This ruling breaks that tenant. It flies in the face of everything this country was founded on. YOU, me, your friends and family...none of us, after this ruling, has an iota of say in our electorate any longer.

That power, the power of money being speech, now resides in the corporations. SCOTUS acted as everything the Republicans have railed against with the judiciary and became an ACTIVIST majority court.

I weep at what will now become a country not ruled by representation, but ruled by money.

Those that have will; those that don't will suffer.

And...

...it was not "ruled by money"...

...when??????
Frank,
There were limitations, no matter how small. This ruling allows corporations and unions to give an unlimited amount to canidates. This will change the way elections are conducted.
