THE TRUTH (HONEST!!!!)
OK. I’m pretty insulted by how many people have said that they totally think I have been arrested AT LEAST THREE EFFIN’ TIMES OR MORE, and once for indecent exposure for God’s sake.
Well, #1 is TRUE.
In the spring of 1970 four of us “fun loving and crazy” college guys were driving from Durham, NC to Louisville, Ky. for the Derby. It was late Friday night and we had pulled into a highway rest stop in Kentucky, only an hour or so from our destination. Given that the Derby is this weekend, this event actually occurred 39 years ago tonight. Weird.
Anyway, there were “No Facilities” according to the sign, so we pulled up near the woods in the dark at the end of the lot, got out of the car, placed our open beers on the roof, and began peeing in the grass (and it was pretty dark). From out of fucking nowhere came a pair of headlights courtesy of the Kentucky Highway Patrol. Next stop was the London, Ky. jail for an overnight stay in the drunk tank (that’s another story all by itself).
In court on Saturday morning we learned that the charge was indecent exposure. At our “trial” the judge learned we were Duke students, then told us about his niece that went to Duke, and how he hoped she didn’t know us or hang around with us, and then announced that one of us could plead guilty to the charge and we would all go free, and - this is true- the fine was however much cash we had in our pockets ($71.34). My nervous roommate volunteered to take the rap and we let him! We made it in time for the 5th race, and the Derby.
#2 is also TRUE.
Sonny Bono had a close cousin (Liz) in Michigan who was a high school buddy of mine. Sonny and Cher frequently visited Liz and stayed at her house. We always got to go over and party, and they partied pretty hard. And she was HAWT, if you know what I mean. They came even after their blockbuster album (“I Got You Babe”) in 1965. Some trivia: Their first duo gig was as “Caesar and Cleo.” Go figure.
#3 is a LIE.
Melinda French Gates and I went to the same college but at different times, and we’ve never met. I do think she would be fun to know - she is very smart and she and Bill are quite philanthropic. But if we had dated, Bill would be very, very jealous (jeez, I’m kidding, I’m kidding…Yikes…just a joke….chill).
This was fun and I sincerely appreciate all of you for coming over and taking time to play. I love my OS buds. xoxoxoxoxxoxoxoxo

Ok, reading that made me think that there is no way you partied with sonny and cher in the sixties because you ain't that old. so I will change my pick to 2.
And that is precisely the kind of confusion you are trying to cause, so I think that maybe it is really 1.
There, that's my choices. 1,2 or 3.
These additional comments of mine, by the way, are all true statements.
You may be older than Melinda Gates but you live in North Carolina. Duke's in North Carolina. To Melinda, you would have been that erudite older fellow who swept her off her impressionable feet with your experience and" juune say kwa" manner. It could happen!
As for #2, I think you have way to much self-respect to have hung out with Sonny and Cher. It's just so WRONG! But hey, humans are capable of doing extraordinarily odd things. So, this could be true.
So, I'm having to go with Cartouche and say that #1 is the most likely lie because you are a sly, sly fellow with mischief on his mind and I think you've been Mirandized a heap more times than just 3.

I don't have a big opinion on Melinda Gates, so I can go either way on that one.
I'm going to bed. Answers on Friday afternoon cause the damn day job (oops, YES, I am grateful to even have a job) is keeping me away from my desk most of the day (and that's actually a good thing).

My guess is #2 is false. I don't know... #3 just reads as more plausible than #2.

Thanks for alerting me to your answers. I was pretty sure that #1 was true in some measure. I want you to know that although I'm not a true Dukie, I did a postdoc at Duke in 2004 in their sociology department (formerly their Center for Demographic Studies in Aging). Best two years I've spent in a long while.

But it seemed good then, and it was. I get 200 channels now, but still only watch three – msnbc, Fox Sports Carolinas for hockey, and ESPN or whatever channel is broadcasting ACC basketball. That’s really about it. Man, I really wandered a little here. Oh well, it is my post.
