Dear Body,
I’ve known you for almost thirty years, but it seems like there’s so much about you that I don’t know. Each day brings new experiences with you. I learn so much when I actually pay attention to you. You have so much to teach me.
I want to apologize for all the mean things I’ve said about you. I spent quite a few years as an adolescent and young adult, staring at you in the mirror and spouting hateful words at you. I’m sorry. You didn’t deserve all of that anger and disappointment.
You’ve taken me to places that I didn’t know existed. You’ve shown me things that I hadn’t seen before. Each year is another step in this journey of hope, forgiveness, and accountability. When we trust each other, there is really nothing that we can’t handle.
I’m trying to do better by you. I know I’ll have my slip-ups. I’ll make mistakes. But I want you to know how much I appreciate you. You mean so much to me.
You and me, Body, we’re a team.
Love,
Gwen

The following e.e.cummings’ poem is dedicated as a love letter to the love of my life:
i like my body when it is with your
body. It is so quite new a thing.
Muscles better and nerves more.
i like your body. i like what it does,
i like its hows. i like to feel the spine
of your body and its bones, and the trembling
-firm-smooth ness and which i will
again and again and again
kiss, i like kissing this and that of you,
i like, slowly stroking the, shocking fuzz
of your electric fur, and what-is-it comes
over parting flesh ... And eyes big love-crumbs,
and possibly i like the thrill
of under me you so quite new

I think we all need to write love letters to our bodies at some point in our lives: accentuate the positive.
Lovely letter, and lovely poem.

And I liked reading your life trajectory so far. You took your best bud to San Francisco...now that's treating her right :-)
I think you would like Tim Minchin's video "not perfect".
Beautiful post from a beautiful girl.
