Okay, so it’s not yet official. Yesterday we talk a bit. Well, mainly mwah. I tell Deepak that he is simply hilARious (and he is). He speaks for the ISSSEEM conference in Westminster, yesterday, at the Westin Hotel. His story of coming to America totally cracks me up—he ends up flying in on a helicopter (I think it was because he couldn’t get a rental car or something); this guy is sooo funny! He tells us of his first time on the job as a physician and it’s off the top; not quite yet knowing American lingo, he is directed to an expired person and is asked to pronounce them dead, so he asks for a “torch,” thinking that’s the correct word for flashlight. Of course the looks on the hospital personnel’s faces must have been priceless. His relating the part about needing to pronounce someone who’s dead, dead, strikes him as odd, not to mention that in India there are more dead people than machines and in America, more machines than dead people.
Interesting that I haven’t tuned in to him, before this. He always appears to me as a straight guy (as in the straight man of humor). I’ve not seen him smile and I guess I assumed (a big no-no, here, to assume anything) that Deepak takes himself waaay too seriously. Still, I venture up to him in a meaningful way.
I tell Deepak how hilarious he truly is—and I get the funniest look, sort of quizzical and hesitant. He ventures with a slight smile. Then I mention to Deepak that he is the man of my dreams: spiritual, intelligent and playful. I ask if he is available and he tells me, after the slightest of pauses, “One of these lifetimes.” So there, you have it. I have a life cleared and open for Deepak to be a part of, in one of these lifetimes.
I wonder if I’ll recognize him when I see him—and if he will still be wearing those ultra-hip rhinestone-studded glasses...or are those diamonds? And Chopra, if you’re reading this? I’m not trying to be a troublemaker...like everyone, I just want to be loved.
