The Illusion they Sell Us

We as consumers eat up all the crap the advertisers sell to us. I’m one of those people who read the credits to shows and movies, I read the small print on the ads and read all the stuff they try to flash by us on the screen in the itty bitty print that only lasts about 6 seconds on the TV while a product’s savory things are flashed by.

One of my favorites is the sprays and mints for quitting smoking. This hit home for me because it’s been 10 days since I quit. (Still going strong)

In the commercial the actor is either at a restaurant, or in a traffic jam having a nic-fit. They pop a mint or spray some stuff in their mouth and all is fine, life goes on.

Yeah Right!

If you have ever smoked or tried to quit you know that a craving lasts about a minute long. They come spontaneously not on schedule.  The spray and mints claim that the craving will be gone in as little time as a minute.  Hmmmm, By the time you get the spray or mint out, spray it or eat it, the craving will just about be gone already.

It’s so funny we spend money for the illusion of something that helps us quit smoking when realistically all it does is take our mind off the craving while we search for something that our minds believe will help us quit.

Cosmetics and hair products are the same. It gives the. Illusion of better, not necessarily makes it better. Wrinkle cream gives the illusion of younger skin; mascara gives the illusion of longer lashes. Hair conditioners give the illusion of thicker stronger hair. Then there are the cosmetic surgery people who give the illusion of a younger appearance. You can stretch any piece of dry leather, add some oils and it will look good…for a while; it’s inevitable the skin will get back to the way nature intended; even lasting beauty is an illusion.

We buy into the “younger” fountain of youth illusion because of fear! Fear of getting old, looking old, feeling old….Being old!

This generation is so full of vanity it’s becoming funny. How can you not laugh when you see all these Hollywood stars with wind blown faces, and stiff fake hair. Or was that stiff fake faces and wind blown hair? Boobs that are factory made along with penis pumps and enlargers as well as the 4 hour pill that keeps you hard.

We live such an artificial life it’s difficult to tell what is real anymore. Then again even the truth these days is manufactured. Nothing is real…Really!
