Les Paul Lives On

Rate: 6 Flag

Picture 2As the proud owner of a gorgeous Gibson Les Paul 1960 reissue, I was saddened to hear today of the passing of the great Les Paul himself. Paul was 94 and died of complications from pneumonia. Among other things, Paul was the inventor of the solid body electric guitar as well as a pioneer of multi-track recording. Music itself as well as the music industry would not be what it is today without Les Paul's innovations and creative mind.

"Suddenly, it was recognized that power was a very important part of music. To have the dynamics, to have the way of expressing yourself beyond the normal limits of an unamplified instrument, was incredible. Today a guy wouldn't think of singing a song on a stage without a microphone and a sound system."

Is that a picture of you? You rock!
'Tis me. And thanks.
I was waiting for someone to post about Les Paul!!! What a sad day it is! Not less than two weeks ago I watched the PBS (I think) documentary about him which I rented from Netflix. It was fabulous and I highly recommend it! Talk about time travel!
Around the country Marshall stacks are bowing in tribute.

BTW, neat pic.
one of the things i found most amazing about les paul was he continued to perform at the iridium on broadway every monday night until a short time ago. he really made the most of his senior years.
My dad had a 78 of Les Paul playing "Little Rock Getaway" & when I was a lad I loved it. I wish I could get hold of it as an MP3 today. He was well ahead of his time in the fifties.
Nice to see a fitting tribute on OS. I had that double cutaway slab model with the parallel whammy (up/down instead of in/out) which Gibson only made for a little while. Unfortunately it was stolen in 1967 and I've been playing Fenders ever since.

You must have a strong back. Those suckers are heavy!
