How come no one talks about this?

I've looked in vain all over the place for someone to talk about this new TV tax that starts in January.  Not only is some unidentified company or individual going to make a huge profit of between 10 and 50 dollars per television set in America, we are all going to end up with a BOX ON OUR TV!

Am I the only one who senses 1984 here?  Why doesn't anyone else care about this?  And how did it come about?

Would love to hear others' thoughts on this.

Is this the deal where analog signals won't come over the airwaves anymore (all will be digital)? One of our local TV stations puts a reminder about that on their news crawl every night, and I've heard a few ads telling people to apply for a "free conversion box." I figured it wouldn't affect me because I have digital cable, but I guess my little battery-operated TV will be obsolete unless I get a box bigger than it is.

Yes, that's right. You either have to have cable or get this little box, which will cost $50, except that the government will subsidize it to the tune of $40. Someone is going to get at least $10 per television set! And no one is paying attention to this at all!

Yep, I am in Columbus. The local Fox channel (28) is the one with reminders, although I think I saw a couple of them on NBC (4).

"1984" is spot on......this technology has NOT been designed for our television viewing enjoyment folks!

I refer you to the "video conferencing" that you or your sons and daughters do on a regular basis at work...TWO way vewing...
That particular technological ability ..has been around since the 70's but the world wasn't "ready" for it..

I learned that fact from a high tech guy who was also one of the instructors at the Connecticut School Of Broadcasting...don't know if it still exists.... taught people to be "disc-jockeys" or "radio personalities"..(I had a full "scholarship" because of my speaking voice and ability to "read news"...they wanted me to be a "late night lady" but with two young children in Catholic School and my...but that's another story. .....)

What digital television connection WILL do is enable TVs in the nation...the world? to be sychronized with ONE message ...should the need arise....think Homeland Security message...think "the missle has been launched, please gather your loved ones and say your prayers" message...think "I am blah blah bla blah and I have taken control" message think.................................. "All Jews ...(Christians...Muslims....homosexuals...people over eighty...people over seventy...people over fifty...) report to building number nine immediately..think ..LIFE AS WE HAVE KNOWN IT is over.

Paranoid...delusional? Nope....think digital capabilities ...think about the big Ford cars many police departments (WalnutCreek California!) have that can, and do, roam up and down neighborhoods listening...yes..listening..to conversations...from within the walls of homes..like I said think HOMELAND "SECURITY"...yup.
