John Hamilton's Links
While I was riding my bicycle in downtown Madison last
Saturday I heard a voice coming from a PA system at the Capitol,
and pedaled over to see what was going on. I figured it was some
kind of race or kids' event, but it was a "Tea
Party" rally.

Democracy
Now featured an interview last Friday with Cecily McMillan, an
Occupy Wall Street protester
who was beaten severely by New York City police while having a
seizure, and arrested on March 18. She also was held incommunicado
in jail. Others were
treated in similar fashion, suffering a v/… Read full post »

Disentrenching the Entrenched "Leadership"
Last Friday's News Hour aired a segment featuring an Army Lieutenant Colonel who served in "Afghanistan," who contends that our top military command is misleading Congress and the "American" people about progress in the "war." Most significantly, the whistleblower, LTC Daniel Dav

Aiding the "Enemy"
When I think about formative experiences in my life,
many come to mind. I ran away from home when I was three years old.
In Chicago. More likely I just wandered off. I remember being found
by a couple of policemen, who bought me ice cream, and took me to

Reverse Engineering
It has been a while since I wrote about the economy. So many other matters have intervened, and another dry treatise on economic topics would likely bore people, and would also have zero impact. Things I have written about, from the "Arab spring" (which actually… Read full post »
Sexual abuse by a college coach is
in the news again, this time by an assistant basketball coach
at Syracuse. This case is a little more in doubt than the Jerry
Sandusky case, but the likelihood is that there is merit to the
accusations. The news Friday… Read full post »
There was a "moment of silence" before Saturday's Penn
State football game. Symbolic moments of silence are a time-honored
tradition at "American" sporting events, usually in remembrance of
one or more people who have died. This time it was different. Officially the moment of silence was for c… Read full post »

Time's a Wastin'
In 1997 my job slowed down, so I needed to find
something else to do in my off days. I answered an ad to sell
satellite TV
systems, thinking it would be easy money. It of course wasn't,
and I ended up not selling even one. I did learn a thing/…

Thanks
I had some ideas festering to write about, but this
picture is enough by itself to tell the story of the struggle
against Wisconsin's governor and his nasty legislation. If you
click on the picture a larger version appears. All the pictures are

Sara Palin came to Madison last Saturday to speak at the
"Tea Party" tax day rally. It was a raucous event, with a seemingly
endless series of speakers building invective to a crescendo that
culminated with Palin's speech.
A lot of interesting things happened on the sidelines,
with count… Read full post »

Union Solidarity at the Wisconsin State Capitol
It helps if you're going to cover a big rally to get
there early. Today was a perfect example. Union members across the
state of Wisconsin rallied for the second day against

bargaining rights of state workers and drastically reduce

Keep Talking
One would almost feel sympathy for Barack Obama. He ran
for president in 2008, based solely on the thunder of his speech at
the "Democratic" convention four years earlier. He delivered a
great speech, ergo he's qualified to be president. Now, I suspect, he's having second thoughts. He has no a… Read full post »

The part reveals the whole

Every so often a coincidence occurs that points to a larger reality. Such was the case this past Saturday, when a mentally unstable man in Arizona went on a shooting spree, killing six people and injuring fourteen others.
