Adam Lambert obviously thinks he is a star.
As a devoted American Idol fan, I looked forward to seeing what the Simon Cowell machine has done with Adam since his runner-up status on the show. I found it interesting that Kris Allen was a presenter on the 2009 American Music Awards program while Adam literally closed the show.
So with lots of hype leading up to the Adam Lambert debut… I watched, fully expecting to see something very special.
I was sorely disappointed.
Adam's performance was over-produced and not sung nearly as well as he performed during American Idol. The song choice was horrible and he was so busy striving to be sexually outlandish, that he forgot to stay on key. I taped it and backed it up several times to try and see if he was sticking his tongue down the throat of a man or a woman at one point. I could not tell.

He is not a star. Jay Z is a star… and I hate rap music. Alicia Keys is a star. Shakira is a star. Carrie Underwood is a star. Janet Jackson is a star. J-Lo is a star, as pitiful as her performance was this evening. Mary J. Blige is a star. Whitney Houston, bless her heart, is a star… even if she is merely a shade of her former self.
My problem is that the talent that I watched during Idol does not need such madness. He just needed to get out there and sing.
Adam Lambert is not a star. Not yet anyway… and if he keeps up like this, he never will be.

"The AMA's put on an unbelievable and unforgettable night of performances from beginning to end which included an eight minute opening bang by Janet Jackson. Other notable performances of the night were from a Jay-Z and Alicia Keyes duet of the single "Empire State of Mind" which rocked the L.A. based crowd and had them on their feet singing the lyrics. Later, Whitney Houston's comeback award and performance moved her and fans to tears. Welcome back Whit.
Lady Gaga put on an unprecedented performance of "Bad Romance" in which she lit up the stage quite literally with a flaming piano and shattered not only a window but bottle after bottle on the keys she played. Jennifer Lopez slipped out of the hands of a dancer who was supposed to assist her in a secure landing on stage but instead let her go just a moment too soon and she was unable to recover falling flat on her bottom.
J-Lo was in good company though as the most anticipated and final performer of the evening, Adam Lambert also appeared to roll through a possible disaster mid stage. I’m fairly certain his S&M themed performance which bordered on scandal and desperation will be remembered more than the slip up though. During his debut of “For Your Entertainment” Lambert shoved the face of a dancer into his southern region, kissed what appeared to be a male keyboardist and tugged on something between the legs of a lady dancer’s costume, the whole time declaring with his signature vocals, "I'm here for your entertainment."

What the hell outfit was that on Janet Jackson?
You'll have to wait a while, trilogy - Lambert closes the long, long show.
Oh and sincere apologies for the spoiler. I never even considered the west coast impact of my blog.
And did Jermaine introduce one of his kids as "Jermajesty?" Give me a break... please!
And I think you did hear "Jermajesty." I'm trying to clean my ears out even now.
And speaking of Jackson - there was a lot of playing with fire...
And if you mean the flames around Lady Gaga's head while she was playing the piano and breaking glass... that woman is flat out crazy.
I actually thought I would really like this new format where they do far less presenting and a lot more performances. I don't know what happened but it wasn't good. (Will someone explain Rhianna to me. I know she is attractive but damn. Her live performances are always terrible.)
He looks "pretty"! What's with the leashes!!!! Oh god, I'm just too old for this. Whoa!!!! Night all
Don't/didn't watch the show but I'm sure glad to see you back!
Have fun!
They seem to understand, as my brother the Guitar man says, we're musicians and just so long as we have a place to play and whether it is feast or famine, so long as we can play, we're happy. It's about the music, Sis.
I never thought that Adam 'got that' even when he was on Idol.
however, I loved Lambert's sense of theater and his singing was good when he calmed down and put it out there. I thought when he hooked up with Queen that last show, that this would be where he'd end up. I'll have to see if there's a youtube of the Lambert appearance last night.
AI is an excellent venue for new talent. They also chew these people up and spit them out, all homogenized.
I suppose I need to turn on the tv now and then if I am going to learn about what people talk about. Sigh.
One woman (not Whoopie who is the only one I immediately recognize) echoed my sentiments about the fact that no one will remember what he sang or how he sounded. If you go in for shock performances like this, you really don’t need any talent.
