I think it’s fair to say that Obama’s time in office has been a failure.  This is the 41st month of 8%+ unemployment… the longest period in post-WWII America.  The last time things dragged on this long was when a Democratic president launched a major stimulus program.

Looking at the chart regarding Government stimulus we’ll see that the more money which is spent the slower recovery occurs.  The reason why is quite simple: private industry is going to wait until the economy stabilizes once all that Government money has (inefficiently) passed through the system to see what remains.
So the more stimulus, the worse things get and the more Democrats will want.
It’s a vicious circle.
Since Obama’s policies have been a failure, it’s necessary to change the subject and that means throwing out some red meat to the masses.
Capitol Commentary covered the distraction issue in April in our article titled The Eight Ways Obama & Democrats Will Wage War Before the Election.
We had Sandra Fluke and birth control, which didn’t seem to have much mileage but then, more recently, we had Obama’s big flip flop on gay marriage then, as a follow-up, former Obama adviser Rahm Emmanuel launched the Chick-fil-A trial balloon about how its president’s stand for “traditional marriage”  didn’t mesh with “Chicago values.”
Other Democrats jumped in and said Chick-fil-A wasn’t welcome in their city (the ACLU said this stance was illegal) and people soon swarmed the restaurants giving them the greatest sales day ever.
Whoops.
But during all of this time we’re not talking about the economy.
It’s all a distraction.
Romney’s taxes… raising taxes… gay marriage… birth control…
Just don’t discuss the economy.
The economy is terrible.
We are 11 million jobs down versus what we had before the botton dropped out.
And quarterly growth is decreasing (because of the stimulus).
But anything to not discuss the economy!

Yes, Obama never should have claimed unemployment would be below 8%. Those bold statements always come back to haunt serious politicians.
Your suggestion that he tries to change the subject is really hollow. It's the right wing loonies that scream the loudest about the social issues. Who wouldn't notice? Remember Rush and his vicious attacks on Sandra Fluke? And Romney's taxes? That's not a distraction. It's real. All he has to do is release them and the controversy is over. What's he hiding? It's not his wealth - it's how he made it, and how he used the Tax Code to his advantage. I don't begrudge him his money at all. He's just worried that he'll look like he profited from tax breaks that are not available to the average working person - or worse - we'll learn he put assets in foreign countries to avoid taxes - or worse still - he did some questionable and the IRS zinged him and so he had to pay more taxes.. Imagine, a patriot like the Mittster avoiding taxes. I mean really - John McCain picked Sarah Palin over Romney because she was better qualified? I think that says it all. I can't wait for the Repub convention. Palin, Trump, Bachmannn, Newster all looking in from the street? This will be great political theater and ought to sink the Mittster for good in the polls. And the drama around his Veep? I love it!!!
I know you guys just loathe Obama. might as well get used to him because he's here to stay. The Mittster juts doesn't have any vision or future-drive to pull this off. He seems devoid of any original or concrete thoughts about how to make things wok
