Clint Eastwood’s Speech Before the Republican National Convention: A Man’s Got to Know His Limitations

Rate: 1 Flag

“Make my day.”

The Republican Party’s position is that it is not Pro Choice or Pro Gay Marriage.  Any Republican who says they favor either of those two positions is called a RINO (Republican In Name Only).

One of the biggest concerns regarding Mitt Romney was whether he would publicly state his positions in a definitive manner.  This is what the 2012 Republican presidential candidate said upon accepting the nod to run against Obama:

As president, I will protect the sanctity of life. I will honor the institution of marriage

So why would a Pro Choice and Pro Gay Marriage supporter be chosen to give a speech right before Mitt Romney accepted the nomination for president?

Because that speaker’s name was “Clint Eastwood” is why.

Though Mr. Eastwood’s stand-up routine with an empty chair meant to represent Obama was amusing, the fact that his RINO positions would never be tolerated in a Republican presidential or vice presidential candidate does make one scratch one’s head considering the standing ovation he received.

I love Clint Eastwood’s films (even Any Which Way But Loose) and I will be voting for Mitt Romney in November but the gulf between Romney’s and Eastwood’s stated view on abortion and gay marriage are interesting when you consider that, were he not Clint Eastwood, he would have been mocked and dismissed by the very party that featured him at their convention.

So is the Republican party becoming more socially liberal or did they just pander for rating and buzz?

Eastwood is one of the greatest icons in American history. If he offers to go on stage on your behalf, you let him.

How many ways can one say, "big mistake"?
Republican convention went off the "cliffs of insanity" with this one.

For heaven's sake, what were they thinking?
Is this a glimpse of what Republican good judgment looks like?

This was the last night of the Republican convention.
And we are given this?

Try as I may, will I ever be able to erase the image of my favorite actor/director playing the part of a demented, crazed old man?

But as bad as this is, what does it say for a Republican party that can have so little sense as to allow this to happen?
I'm looking forward to Elizabeth Warren aka Dances with Lies' speech. I heard she'll discuss how high cheek bones got her to where she is in life and how her Pale Face relatives helped lead the Trail of Tears.

Of course other highlights include a 30 year old who can't afford birth control at $9 per month, and of course Barney Frank who helped cause the housing crisis and used to date a cocaine using gigolo who ran a bi-sexual whore house.

Should be great family viewing!
D Garr: That is a specious argument -- that this somehow symbolizes the judgement of the entire Republican party. If you want to play that game, what does the choice of Biden as VP tell us about the judgement of Barack Obama and the entire Democratic party?
