Friday afternoon musings, to the tune of Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to Be an American”…
(1st verse, from a diabetic)
Looks like all the precious things are gone,
That I’ve worked for all my life,
And I wish that I could start again,
And keep my children and my wife
The local banks and lawyers
Took my house and car away
When an accidental illness
Left me with bills no one could pay
I once was proud to be an American
Where I thought that I was free
But I won’t forget how Congress lied
Just to keep down folks like me
I would gladly stand up next to you,
But I’m now riddled with pain
‘Cause their ain’t no doubt who runs this land
God help the USA
(response from the republicans)
We pay taxes that go to finance war
In a land we’ll never see
So we’re rich enough to bomb and kill
And bail out GM and Wall Street
But all you kids and mommies
You disabled and elderly
Why should those like me have to pay for you?
That’s not how this land should be…
Cause I’m proud to be an American
Where the dollar is still king
And the Senator will not forget
All the donors just like me
And I gladly stand up, blinders on
And ignore those who debate
‘Cause I only care if I get mine
God bless the USA!
