Treyvon Martin, President Obama by Proxy?

Rate: 3 Flag

My president, Barack Obama, is absolutely within his rights to say that if he had a son, the child would look like Trevon Martin, and those, like the odious Michelle Bachmann and Newt Gingrich, who have called him out for it are not only wrong, they are dishonestly so. Disgustingly and dishonestly so.

President Obama must know, just as you and I know, just how many white people would like to see him dead. They make no secret of it; one even suggested to Rick Santorum last week that imagining Obama as a target would improve his aim at a shooting range.  She didn't seem to care if her remarks were caught on tape; she shouted them.

That upstanding, decent, American citizen, Barack Hussein Obama, who grew up a biracial, black-appearing child, must know that he, himself, not his imagined son, could as easily have been shot at any time by a white person who "felt threatened" by his dark skin. He could be shot now, by any of the faceless tea-party members and their supporters (and those, like Gingrich and Bachmann who pander to them) who demonstrate their hatred on placards depicting Obama as a white-faced, menacing "Joker," or a monkey, or a nazi. Or a Muslim. These haters feel threatened, too.

The bravery of Barack Obama in the face of such murderous hatred is one more reason for me to feel love for and pride in my president.
