The Anniversary

Rate: 0 Flag
The original plan was  to go to Baguio and then we'll stay there for just a day. We'll leave Pampanga at 6AM arrive maybe around noon then leave at 7PM so we'll be home by midnight. It takes 5 hours to reach the mountains and another 5 hours down. I'll pay for the bus fare, he'll take care of the rest. It was a good plan. What I wanted was for us to spend the night in Baguio then leave the next day. It ain't happening, says he. He does not have a legitimate excuse to his mom and dad. Did I mention his parents are conservative? Like super duper? Okay, you get the picture. So well, let's say I got frustrated with the plan. Spending 10 hours in a bus was not worth it.
Then we compromised and formulated Plan B. It consists of another out of town "adventure" in Manila (Philippine's capital). We'll go to this new mall (Trinoma), scan the boutiques and try the new restos. It was another good plan. I liked Plan A but this is better given the circumstances.

Saturday night, I had a nasty headache. Sunday morning we went to the eye doctor. I need to wear glasses. Sure doc. How much are the glasses? 3,000 pesos (About $70) . Uh-oh there goes my money. Sorry honey, we need to cancel the Manila trip as well.

Well, okay, I expected something. I was the mastermind behind Plan A and B (okay, it's a decision we both agreed to) and I expected some sort of a contingent measure. And I expected this measure to come from him. Apparently there's none. So is this anniversary a one way thing? Am I the only one excited to make plans on this day? The answer is yes.

Men are known to forget anniversaries, birthdays, important events. Must be the testosterone. I couldn't accept it. I filed a 3 day vacation leave and now instead of me enjoying the mountains in Baguio or scoping the latest fashion trends in a really big mall, I am stuck at home?!! In true girlfriend fashion, I threw a tantrum. Oh yes. Must be the estrogen.

(On the phone)" I shouldn't have filed my vacation leaves. I am reporting for work tomorrow since we don't have plans anyway'
Him: "What's the matter?"
"What's the matter? (in a sarcastic tone) Don't you get it? It's our anniversary! And you don't have plans!"
Him: "Uh, we did right? But you said we won't go anymore because you bought your glasses"
"The point is you don't have a plan for us. I am the one who initiated those plans"
Him: "What are you so angry about? I am going to spend the whole day with you"
"Forget it"

It was futile. He simply didn't get this planning thing. Obviously he got annoyed. He sounded really annoyed on the phone. Sigh.

That was Tuesday. The next day was THE anniversary. I didn't call or text him. He didn't call or text either. It got me thinking. He said he's going to spend the whole day with me... Wasn't that a plan?

I called him that night. Said sorry. I was acting like a baby.

We spent the whole Wednesday together. That was the plan.

And know what? He exceeded my expectations. :)

Men!!! Sounds like my daughter's fiance. Cold and callous, until he's called on the carpet for forgetting, avoiding and just being a jerk. Then, he's like Don Juan - full of tenderness and love.

You'll have to excuse me, for I came from an era when men treated their loves like goddesses, or was it just that I knew I was hopelessly in love with the goddess and lost to her? Not sure what the answer truly is, but an adorable young lady like you deserves the goddess treatment.

Make him pay up, cutie.

yeah, romance seems dead with the younger men. it's good to know that we still have the likes of you and monsieur chariot. maybe you could teach them a thing or two? it was a good day, still. may not have been what i had in mind, cause i like traveling but still it's good. :)
Send him my way. I'll gladly "teach him a thing or two" :-)
