Meet Alfie Patten. The cute little baby is not his baby sister, it's his daughter. Alfie looks like he's 7 or 8 years old, but he's actually 13. He and his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman 15, were dating and according to them, they just had one night of unprotected sex. The baby, Maisie, came out 9 months later, a beautiful 7lbs girl.
Reports say that Alfie and Chantelle decided against abortion. " I will be good and take care of it" states the baby faced father. When I read the interviews, my initial reaction was shock and forlornness . He was giving such innocent answers like "I thought it would be good to have a baby" and "I didn't think about how we would afford it. I don't really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me £10."
How in the world would they raise this child? Funny thing is, Alfie's dad is going to give him a lecture about sex. Isn't that a bit too late? Do we need to blame the media? Those sexy, racy MTVs? Do we need to blame the rising stat on divorce? Do we need to blame the fundamental unit of society?
I don't have the answer to any of these. I may have my own theories but not real naswers.
Some people condemned the family of Alfie and Chantelle. Some praised them for their show of support. Some were cynics, especially Chantelle's family belong to the "lower class" (for lack of a better term) and Alfie's family belong to the "upper class". They smell golddiggers.
Nonetheless, what I believe is we need not to focus on the not so important issues. The family should focus on helping Alfie and Chantelle be the best parents for the baby and raise her to be a compassionate human being. Maybe the root cause of teenage pregnancies is we focus on the controversy. It's a vicious cycle. In the past, we dwelled on Jamie Lynne Spears' pregnancy but so few reached out to help Jamie Lynne raise her daughter to be a good and caring person at least. What would happen to Jamie Lynne's baby when she grows up? Some people would undoubtedly whisper behind her back. Do you think she'll be inspired to be a better person after she reads all those articles regarding her mom's pregnancy? Maybe. Maybe not.
Teenagers will continue to have sex, protected and unprotected. The number of teen pregnancy may rise in the future if we are more interested in the contoversy.

In a way, Hollywood etc. is like a heroin pusher. It makes billions off stupid kids whose lives end up being ruined.
Once in that situation, obviously, we can only make the best of it.
My guess is that, while Alfie and Chantelle may well have had sex and Alfie believes himself to be the baby's father, the biological father of that baby is someone older or at least more physically developed.
But then, "15-year-old lower-class English girl has out-of-wedlock baby by her 19-year-old boyfriend" doesn't sell newspapers.
leeandra, there's going to be a DNA test according to reports because there are boys claiming they had sex with Chantelle. And there's another UK tabloid offering Alfie 8O thousand euros for full access on Alfie. It sickens me to see such a delicate matter being handled like it's just another job to "journalists". Then again you're right. The headline sells.
