This was the backlit view from the front porch of my little mountain house yesterday afternoon, looking toward "downtown." (Yes, that's pretty much all of it.)

And this was the view looking up the same street.

Life is really, really good. Remind me of that over the next nine months when I complain about snow.

More gorgeous than a postcard. These photos are magical!
God makes good color choices, eh? I just love your village, and will come see it in person some day! Ever thought to print up some postcards?
Wow. We went over Kebbler pass and McClure pass but they weren't quite turned out: not like this!
so beautiful! Waiting for the comparison shot, in a few months, with snow drifts!
Wow! I think that vista might be the definition of splendor.
Certainly gorgeous! Yes, I'll remind you this winter. I remember some of your last winter's posts. And mine. Last winter sucked! Let us pray that this one upcoming is moderate HL.
Thank you, all. This is a magical place, even when the snow is six feet deep, but I really prefer my magic at about 65F.

Diana, you will be welcome.

Deborah, it's pretty random. Last fall the cold came so fast we didn't have much color at all. There are places higher up that are still summer green, and places in the lower river valley where the cold pooled and the narrow-leaf cottonwoods are already bare. Right there, it was absolutely perfect.

Catherine, I can post some shots from last year. I'm hoping that it won't get quite so deep this year. Trig is right; last winter pretty much sucked, but I suppose that moisture contributed to these colors.

This is why churches have stained glass windows: so the congregation can't see out. I've been here a year now, and I have yet to find a Sunday when I can compete with the view out the window.
So beautiful! Takes your breath away! R
Very nice. Here in Oregon we are also having some late summer, with temperatures in the low 80s today, and more sun forecast. But I have to confess that the view from my front porch is considerably less inspiring than yours!
BluSpeck, Sweetfeet, thanks.

Holly, we have a lot of those old poles. Most of them still have glass insulators.

Mishima, it's been in the 80s here too, but nights are cold. Summer is over.
When I opened up this post, the colors in the top photo literally took my breath away. What a magnificent fall view! I hope you'll take more photos in the winter of both views when they're covered in snow. I'm betting there will still be much beauty to admire.
Lisa, you can't really see it, but the bottom picture does include a little pocket of snow left over from a midweek storm. It's coming.
Thank you. The temp's still pushing 100 down here in the desert. Nice to know that fall WILL come.
Spectacular pictures and scenery. I wish we could have something more like a month of colored leaves instead of a week or two, but maybe it wouldn't be as wonderful then.
MM, it was 80ish last week, but the breeze is cool today and the light is different. We'll have serious snow before the end of October.

Thank you, MP. We do have about a month because of the varying elevations. The leaves at my weekday home haven't begun to change yet; the leaves at my weekend home are gone.
Lovely! The trees "down here" are only now starting to turn (what little they DO turn...) and harvest is in full swing. Thanks for sharing such a gorgeous, crisp view.
Is it okay is I just sigh with pleasure?
Never thought I'd want to go to Kansas until you....
