Bio
My Marine and I have been married sixteen years and counting. We love each other a great deal, even if our day to day existence can get quite testy. We say we are each other's last spouse. CC was hit by recoilless rifle round in Vietnam in 1969 and was retired from the Marines with over 100% in disabilities. He has led a colorful life and now struggles as his mobility deteriorates and the amount of pain he is in accelerates. I am the Aaron to his Moses because I am his story teller, the chronicler of his escapades. This blog is mostly about our current VA experiences and what is like to live with a war veteran 40 years after the fact of war. PS, I am friending all who are veterans, or families of veterans (whether I agree with their posts or not) This is to make this a site where you can see the full diversity of those who pay for our wars. So if you "come out" as a veteran, family member or someone devoted to their issues, I will friend you.

A PTSD Exam

CC is going before the VA compensation and pension board to ask for more compensation because he has PTSD. Ranking disabilities sucks. But that is our mission - Proving CC to be worthy of restitution because: his body is permanently on alert; he has specific mental, physical, and emotional characteristics caused by war; and asking to be paid for this inconvenience.

In writing these blogs, I give CC a pretty hard time, but hopefully, you the reader, sees what a great guy he is.  Despite the PTSD, he has stunning moments of kindness and generosity - towards loved ones and strangers. He is funny as all get out. Not to mention - when I met him in my mid thirties, he was near 'bout the sexiest man I 'd ever laid my eyeballs on.  He's still all that.

________________________________________________

He is hardwired to expect answers and responses in nanoseconds.

His emotional skin is thin and mine stretches daily to accommodate the stress of a human firecracker exploding endlessly throughout our day.

Its own dementia, the PTSD- a flame in the brain- a seizure of anger.

Pain aggravates. Inconveniences inflame.

Daily routines are fields of land mines.

With humor and self awareness, he goes from one task to the next; being a testament of endurance, preservance, generosity and love;

and in the process, peppering us with residual shell fragments of the American War in Vietnam.   ______________________________

He should not be suffering because of the generosity he showed this country. He is worthy of being thanked and well taken care of, financially and emotionally.
I am not homeless because of the kindness of a woman who took me in - loved me and married me. I have known lots of guys who were not so lucky - and more than one Vet.
Love is the only cure. Real unconditional love - tested proven loyalty love. Thank you - Thank you - Thank you.
Snowden, my son was rescued by the love of a woman. I am eternally in her debt. Yes to love.
That damn war will never go away until the last Vet is dead. Trying to get a raise from the VA is like trying to get blood from a stone. I hope he's luckier than most!!
You and he both have my humblest respect and gratitude. Namaste.
Scanner, I am so sorry it has taken me so long to respond. CC and others veterans from the Vietnam war have enriched my life dramatically. I never would have imagined in the seventies that I would love someone who had been in the war, but I do.

I don't want to glorify war but there are certain properties that warriors have that make them important contributors to our society. I think I want to address this in much more detail than a comment, so just stay tuned.
