Teaching my Young Sons about War

Is there any justification for War?
I was a child during the Gulf War. I grew up in a town that was strikingly pro-military, not just because it was the "south", but also because of the large military base in the area. As a child, I was… Read full post »
Trading Orgasms for Sanity
I came by my recent diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder honestly. My mother suffered from it for years, but has been medication free for the past 10. From my own analysis, anxiety (or what I now know is OCD) is my coping mechanism of choice. Whenever there are significant changes in… Read full post »

Mark 10:17-25
17As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"18And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good… Read full post »
I'm Too Young To Become Disenchanted. Re: Politics...
Obama was "change I could believe in", but now what? I'm a young person. I've only voted in 2 presidential election cycles, actually, and I have only been a progressive for the past 4 years. There are reasons I became a progressive. Progressives are for people, not profits or corporations. Progressiv… Read full post »
The HIV Patient.
HIV positive. The first HIV positive patient I am forced to touch. I walk in and grab gloves. Introductions. Tasks.
HIV positive. She bleeds and there is blood. Gloves on my hands, blood on my gloves. HIV in her blood on the gloves on my hands.
Nevertheless, a conversation. She is… Read full post »
Pre-Marital Sex Strikes Again.
I have a confession to make. I had pre-marital sex. Oh the horror! No, really, my mom still doesn't know about it and we sort of dance around the issue. We play this little game. It's sort of comical. Let me give you an example. This is the round-about dialogue that… Read full post »
Open Call, Poetry: Kahlil Gibran
On Children
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.You may

My Breasts Frighten Me.
In high school, they were perky, round and practically gravity-defying. After two pregnancies and subsequent breastfeeding, they are somewhat droopy. Breasts. My husband seems hypnotized by them. I do not think they are anything special. In fact, they are quite frightening.
Breast Cancer is everywher… Read full post »
Two Things For Which I Will Not Die: God and Country

I Like My Parents Apart (Divorced) Rather Than Together.
My parents were a bad match from Day One. Honestly, I have no idea what they ever had in common. The fighting began in ernest after my brother was born. My father was never home- Never. My mother screamed, and screamed, and screamed. My mom would stand in front of the… Read full post »
My Mother: On Positive Thinking Bullshit, Manipulating God
I'm ready for "Big Love" to get good and trashy.
This is all Palindrome's fault. I'm addicted to "Big Love" on HBO. I never imaged this would happen. It's not like I planned it. I had been avoiding the show for years based on my distaste for polygamy. My primary (and only) argument against polygamy is that it allows the man… Read full post »
Waiting to hear from a job interview. Deep inside the recesses
of my brain:
Really if we got the job, it would be great. But, it would also be
not so great. For one, you'd have to move. You hate moving. The
packing, the boxes, the fighting over which stuff you can… Read full post »
Look, Y'all: My Dr. Amy Post

I'm going to get screened. I'm on a plane for a screening to donate my eggs. How do you tell that to the twentysomething guy next to you on the plane wondering where you're headed and why? They'll take lots of blood and do a vaginal ultrasound and exam. They'll set… Read full post »

Bet-Hedging for a Child...
http://www.nebraska.tv/Global/story.asp?S=9643949
A case in Nebraska recently has piqued my interests. Apparently a 21 year old woman became pregnant and sought to have the baby placed for adoption by a private agency. She required that the adoptive parents not be pregnant and not have any bio… Read full post »
The Evolution of My Mother.
I came in the door having just gotten off of the bus. Mom was sitting on the couch in the exact same place as she had been when I had left. In fact, she was also wearing the same pale yellow sweat pants and she was staring at the same wall.… Read full post »
Baby Hair....My son's babydoll.

Baby Hair.
A little frightening, eh? This is my oldest child, Noah's, lovey. Baby dolls came into my sons life before the birth of our youngest child. I decided my 10 month old son needed a babydoll to maybe help ease the transition of a new… Read full post »

Dead people on my I-Tunes.

Dead.

Dead.

Dead.
There are dead people on my I-Tunes. They made good music, but now they are dead. Oh well. Just my luck anyway. Figures.
I didn't grow up listening to awesome music (well, with the exception of Bruce Springsteen- Dad's secre… Read full post »

It is! It is your problem! It is your problem, Mommy! It is!
The harsh realities of being a preschooler. After picking out all of the marshmellows in the Lucky Charms, he now proceeds to tell me that the rest of his cereal is yucky and that he "WANTS MORE MARSHMELLOWS NOW!" Of course, you can't get more marshmellows until you eat the rest… Read full post »
