Greatest Rock Voices

Rate: 3 Flag

Having just watched The Who doing "It's Hard" on Dustbowldiva's blog, I'm prompted to ruminate on which have been the best rock voices of the past 40 years or so.

What about...

Robert Plant

Paul Rogers

Roger Daltrey

Tina Turner

Ian Gillan

Roger Chapman (Family)

Captain Beefheart

Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top of course!)

Don Henley

Jim Morrison

John Lennon

Tom Waits

Barry Manilow (only joking folks!)

Rod Stewart (in his younger days)

Peter Gabriel

The Boss

Van Morrison

John Fogerty

Mick Jagger

Steve Miller

Tom Petty

Steve Winwood

Bono

Steve Marriot

Any ideas?

I'd have to say that it's between Paul Rogers and Robert Plant for the top of my list. But each to his (or her) own...

I'd say it's between Robert Plant and Rod Stewart at the top of mine but for some reason Jim Croce just came to mind with a little snippet of "Operator". And I've always liked Phil Collins' voice too.
Thanks for the post, Honorary!

How heavy of "rock" are we talking? Depending on that: Bruce Dickinson...one of the all time greats!
Joey Ramone. Listen to him do "Baby I Love You."
Not many comments, but, I noticed that Mick Jagger isn't on anyone's list.
Actually, Mick Jagger is on mine!! Some really great suggestions in there on some of your comments. Plus I almost forgot one of my great faves - Joe Cocker!
Sorry to sound ignorant, but who's Steve Perry, Chuck? Can't be the one I went to school with. Plus, sorry I left you off my initial list (??!)
Re Bruce Dickinson, DL, I suppose Ozzie Osbourne deserves a mench too. Not sure about Lemmy though, but, well...

Steve Perry is the ultra cool original frontman for Journey.
Me, I'm just a guy who once sang and played guitar. : )
Bit like me then chuck. Well, it's bass I play. Not got anyone to play with at the moment though. If you fancy torturing your ears, check this out - http://vimeo.com/3965813. I wrote the song and play bass. I'm not the lead vocal tho' (he's not very good to be truthful!) but I do sing backing. The sound quality isn't good, but, well, it'll occupy 3 or 4 minutes of your day!!
