Americans disagree all the time with each other. That is healthy. The dilemma is when the question is asked, “Are you a true American or a socialistic plant looking to change America?” What do you have to say about Obama calling the opposition an enemy of the state? He also was pushing to have assassinations of Americans that were deemed dangerous. Even the ACLU was against him on that one. Do you consider him an American for saying that? The reason I feel the way I do about you is because of your initial post. The video was an awesome video about young people, saying, “I Am American”. It showed they were merely yelling to the rooftops, We Love America! You seem to say that, these days if we show our Patriotism, we are some kind of fascists. Hawaii is the bellwether indicator of the Nation's economy. As we rely predominately on tourism, which relies on discretionary income, we know first before anyone else what the trends are ... reservation made or cancelled.

Today tourism is up 7% this year. This is entirely because of the president's genius team and policies. It means the many people in stable sectors are OK, still vacationing. It does not mean everyone's OK, they aren't and won't be. The old jobs are not coming back, no real estate bubble like that can be replaced, thats why they call them bubbles! It is over, bro.

The new jobs will come from the prez and green energy, and from the stimulus and infrastructure. We need more jobs bills, all of which will have government creating jobs.

Will this be socialism? Of course not, capitalism has been a mixed economic system of govt/private industry, since, well, forever. Socialism means state ownership of private property and industry. Where does the US government do this. It is a propaganda lie, like the death panels which never existed in govt., yet exist today and have forever in the insurance underwriting industry itself, killing people left and right, with private industry at the helm.

We are going to have to insist on proper definitions!

What you are calling discretionary income, could very well be debt that may not get paid back. You also have to compensate for lower prices to attract tourists. Lower prices will mean more people are taking advantage of being able to travel, while not adding as much revenue into the economy. They are traveling for a lot less. I have seen hotels slashing prices 50 – 75%, just trying to fill rooms and at least make something from the rooms. A cheap room is better than an empty room. Just because tourism numbers are up, that is not a huge indicator of the economy.
HONOLULU -- A top Hawaii economist on Thursday said he believes the state in 2011 will likely see a year of stabilization rather than rapid growth.
So far this year, there have been gains in retailing jobs, food services, health care and hotels, among other sectors. But Leroy Laney, a professor of economics and finance at Hawaii Pacific University, has forecast there will only be a 1 percent increase in job growth in 2011.
Oahusurfer, this is probably due to the tourism rise, as these industries are related to the tourism industry.
"I think the unemployment rate here will come down slowly, just as it will at the national level. We've got a long way to fall for it to come back down to a reasonable level, and I think it will be a while before that happens," Laney said.
Laney predicted the unemployment rate will drop from 6.2 percent to 5 percent in 2011. With the number of construction jobs still falling in 2010 overall, the outlook does not look very bright for the New Year, he said.
"Construction still remains relatively weak. I think it will be a while before we get back on our feet. The recovery will be a slow one," Laney said.

Oahusurfer, I have to disagree with you. New jobs should not be coming from the President, which would mean they are coming from the government. The government was not meant for that. Republican and Democrat presidents have been becoming more and more involved in private lives and industry for the past 100 years. Private industry has always provided the bulk of the jobs. When the government has part ownership in banks and car companies, not to mention wanting a one payer government healthcare system, that is the beginning of socialism, especially when they were now trying to dictate hiring and firing in these companies. You can also add that Obama term, “Spread the Wealth”, to that socialism feel. The bailout of Fannie and Freddie, which failed due to poor management and lies from Barney Frank, caused a major amount of damage to the economy. The cause was noble, trying to allow people that could not afford to buy homes, to be a homeowner. The result was disastrous, due to the government getting involved again. The bailout of the car companies was actually a bailout of the unions that gave Obama millions for his campaign. Why should hard working Americans pay for union member’s obscene wages, pensions and benefits, especially when they are making 3 – 4x as much? This is what happens when a President uses his power in a corrupt way. Before you jump on me, many Presidents are that corrupt, including Bush. The point is, keep the private sector and the government separated, and that will head off a lot of corruption. Let the people deal with corrupted companies by protesting them and hit them where it hurts, their pockets. The problem is that socialism thinks the people are too stupid to see what is going on. Socialism believes the People need to be led around by a leash. The People were a variable that was way underestimated.


Allowing the economy to fall and recover and find its natural water level would be better than throwing an artificial amount of stimulus money into it, to avoid what is going to happen anyway. If you have a hole in a pool, you do not keep adding water to keep the level up. You allow the water level to fall and then repair the hole. Much of that stimulus money was wasted to shore up pension funds to corrupt unions. I agree, green jobs will be in the future, but it is the task of private industry to provide them, instead of Obama giving funding to companies that he has ties to. Look at Al Gore; he is the biggest hypocrite going. He says he is concerned about Global Warming, yet he jets around and buys mansions with the carbon footprint of a small town. He looks like he is eating well too, what with him admitting that he will not give up his steak. If Obama was so concerned with the planet, why would he give millions to a Brazil oil company, which Soros has a stake in, to drill in water that is deeper than what we were drilling in, in the gulf? We only have one planet, what does it matter who drills where? You need to go by thousands of years of warming and cooling cycles, not a couple of hundred. Glaciers have been retreating and advancing for thousands of years. Something just does not wash. A major part of Socialism control is control of the economy. Could this be all part of attaining economic control? Maybe. These people that are supposed to be so caring are forming their own elitists’ class, while everyone else will be a peon.

Capitalism is an economic system based on private ownership of capital. The government should not have their hand in private ownership.

Anyway, it is evident that we are looking at the same object from two perspectives. I feel that I am willing to give the administration a chance to fix things now, especially with their not being total control by one party, which can be dangerous. Let us see what happens and I pray everything will work out for the good of the People, because we will hold them accountable.
