It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a Tea Bagger!
Since 1941 Captain America has been keeping America safe from all manner of foes, both real and imagined by the clever folks at Marvel. He fought the Nazis! He kept us safe from the commies during the great "Red Scare." And most recently, he's been taking on the tea baggers, and getting his ass kicked for his efforts. It would seem that tea is Captain America's kryptonite.
In his blog post on Yahoo! News this morning Brett Michael Dykes details the great hero's battle against those who would tea bag. They do know we're all snickering when we call them "tea baggers" don't they? An excerpt from his post is quoted below:
Issue 602 of the comic features Captain America investigating a right-wing anti-government militia group called "the Watchdogs". Hoping to infiltrate the group, Captain America and his African-American sidekick The Falcon observe an anti-tax protest from a rooftop. The protestors depicted are all white and carry signs adorned with slogans almost identical to those seen today in Tea Party rallies like "tea bag libs before they tea bag you" and "stop the socialists."
The Falcon mentions that the gathering appears to be "some kind of anti-tax protest" and notes that "this whole 'hate the government' vibe isn't limited to the Watchdogs." He then tells Captain America that he doesn't think their plan will work because "I don't exactly see a black man from Harlem fitting in with a bunch of angry white folks." Captain America then explains that his plan entails sending The Falcon in among the group posing as an IRS agent under the thinking that a black government official will most certainly spark their anger.
The clear implicit attack on the Tea Party Movement was first noticed by Publius' Forum's Warner Todd Huston. When a minor uproar ensued, Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada spoke to Comic Book Resources and defended the issue while apologizing for the panel that seemed to tie real-life Tea Party protesters to the fictional group depicted in the book.
Quesada then went on to say that Marvel would "apologize for and own up to" a series of "stupid mistakes" that led to them "accidentally identifying" one of the members of the protest group "as being a part of the Tea Party instead of a generic protest group." He explained that they were on deadline to get the issue to the printer for publication, and in the course of sending it off it was noticed that the signs in the scene contained no words or phrases. He said the editor then asked the letterer to "fudge in some quick signs" and that in the "rush to get the book out of the door," the letterer "looked on the net and started pulling slogans" from signs captured in photographs at Tea Party protests in order to make them appear "believable."
Seriously people. If you're gonna form organizations like the Tea Party Nation and promote an aggressive agenda, you're gonna have to expect that you're gonna be talked about in the main stream press, the blogosphere, and yes, even in the funny pages.
When these conservative groups post racist photos of our president, cast aspersions on his heritage, religion, and place of birth we're supposed to let them pass out flyers at the super market, but Captain America can't kick their asses around the Marvel universe? Pshaw.

Here's the puzzle for the day. Is it tea baggin' or teabaggin' Dave and I were debating this as I was writing.

On the Tea Party Nation website it states: We believe in Limited Government, Free Speech, the 2nd Amendment, our Military, Secure Borders and our Country!
Free speech? Unless you're saying something negative about their organization.
This is stranger than a fictional comic book to be sure. xox
Spoilers... not that anyone actually cares.
The new Captain America is Bucky Barnes, he was Steve Rogers'(the original Captain America) sidekick in WWII. He went missing and became an assassin for the USSR called the Winter Soldier. It should be no surprise about his feelings towards the tea party
I believe the old Captain America (Steve Rogers) is leading The Watchdogs. He is still kicking fascist ass and taking names.
Also, if we want to remember comic books, there was an issue of The Punisher where he infiltrated the oval office and told Bush not to make him show up again or he was a dead man. I'd like to see that fly if something like that happened with Obama on the end of the threats.
America won't be unfucked until we realize that both parties couldn't care about us at all.
And apologizing was the right thing to do. If you offend someone, you apologize, there's nothing wrong about that at all. Like I said, there's a double standard here under a veil of equality.
When you try to take a stance on issues without realizing that both parties don't have your best interests in mind, you look dumb.
DISCLAIMER: Before everyone get's LOLMAD at me, I'll disclose the fact that I think Sarah Palin, her followers, Fox News, MSNBC, Bill O'Reilly, and Glenn Beck are lumbering piles of radiating fucktardedness. Don't flame/hate me, I'm a moderate.
what the teabaggers actually stand for is not clear, but there are some uncontroversial stands that are mainstream
(a) govt sucks up too much of our money with little return
(b) dems & republicans both tend to be tools of the corporatocracy
(c) isolationism. at least, non interventionism
but, the party is still sorting itself out.
I'm gonna be calling them t-buggers
I think it is pretty obvious to most clear thinking people that America is in a decline. But now is not the time to worry about "looking stupid" when a person chooses sides, picks a candidate, volunteers, donates, and votes. The trick is to replace the a**holes with better people.
You can stand on the sidelines and snicker and curse at those who look stupid if it makes you feel better.

Picking sides, donating, and volunteering for people that don't know you, never will, and have evidenced themselves as tools of corporations and private interests so you can think you made a difference is the problem. Here's a tip: they're all assholes.
"You can stand on the sidelines and snicker and curse at those who look stupid if it makes you feel better."
There's nobody not worth snickering at nowadays.
The Tea Party will succeed, because down deep in the American heart is a respect for free enterprise, individual responsibility, and private property.
In a way, the Tea Party should be grateful for Obama and his gang. If Obama were more qualified for his office, and his advisors less patently ideologically unwholesome, it might be more difficult to take them down. But the way they're currently operating, we should be rid of them in record time.
And to the TB I say: "Good luck with that."
Rated for incorporation of politics and comics. My two favorite things.
If the Tea Baggers can produce a handful of black followers OTHER THAN MICHAEL STEELE (who, according to the Daily Show, is not black but actually a distant cousin of the Soup Muppet from Sesame Street), then and only then should Marvel produce an apology.

EXCELLENT, IAmSurly. There is hope for us yet. Excelsior!
If you can't tell the difference between a real civil rights movement and a astro-turf grass roots movement manufactured by Dick Armey and Fox News you deserve to get teabagged.
If you think the president is a cross between Hitler and Stalin you deserve to be teabagged.
If you want a president who couldn't even finish her job as governor and has to read answers to softball questions off her hand you deserve to be teabagged.
If you think Rush Limbaugh is an intellectual you deserve to be teabagged.
By the way, use your spell checker before making that sign for the next rally.
If you don't know what teabagging is, google it.
but then these people don't understand big words like "hypocrisy"
imagine how well a bunch of tea baggers burning capt America in effigy would go over with the media
who's unamerican now?
