I'm a firm believer in the scientific method. So when I'm confronted with a nagging question, I set about to answer it with steadfastness and tunnel vision. And I don't let up until I reach some sort of resolution and feel like I can move on with life once again.
Which is why I've eaten Misha's red velvet cupcakes for 3 days straight. I know, I know. Cupcakes are trendy. And red velvet is even MORE trendy. And you can scoff at me for being just another sheep who blindly follows the latest fad. And you know what else? I don't care. I DON"T CARE!!! And you know why? These cupcakes are so freakin' awesome that until you've tried one you have no right to be a hater and judge me. So yes, three days straight of applying the scientific method to cupcake eating. I just HAD to know what makes them so perfect.
And perfect they are...
I'm slowly learning that there ARE reasons to love Miami. There are plenty of reasons to hate it, but I think it's slowly turning into a city I can live in and that it's finally finding it's own identity. Misha's cupcakes are a perfect example of something I love about Miami. I'm honestly proud to say that I live in the same city as these. http://www.mishascupcakes.com
Let me insert a disclaimer that I do not know the owner, and found out about the existence of these wonderous and beautiful reasons to live entirely by accident. (My favorite french bakery carries them.)
So what makes them so good? Well, I discovered the secret while walking down the street. (I was walking while eating because the wind at the outdoor table I had been sitting at was going the wrong way and blowing my long hair into my face. This was acceptable while I was eating my sandwich, but decidedly UNacceptable while partaking in the glory of the cupcake.) I've also found that I do my best work while slightly distracted, so I decided to eat and walk into the wind. I took a bite. Ooooooohhhhhhhh......ahhhhhhhhhh.......yummy........glorious. I noted the perfect springiness of the cake, the sublime red color, the not-too-sweet flavor, and the moistness. I also noticed some chocolate chips cleverly embedded inside. But none of these were what truly was special about this piece of orgasmic ecstasy I was experiencing. And then it hit me. OH!!! Simple. Yet brilliant. Coconut. Undetectable to the eye, but definitely perceptible by my tongue. Flakes of coconut. Yup. That's what it is about these that just rocks my world.
So now all I have to do is figure out what it is about the frosting...
