The Irritant

Try not to be dismayed by the people, places, or things that go against your grain; the parts of life that irritate; the thorn in the side. You know what they are.

The things that get under our skin often have a gift for us.

See the oyster. Sand gets into its shell and irritates it.

In response, the oyster secretes a fluid that eventually forms... a pearl.

The Irritant is an important player in our interactions with life, and on the journey to becoming our truest selves. Do not turn a blind eye, deny its power, or wish it away.

Find your way to recognize the Irritant.

Engage it with your own brand of humor, and find the pearl meant for you.

An irritant, in contrast to a threat, is something or someone who disturbs the tranquillity and ease of our life. But, pointed, we are not on this earth to have easy or tranquil lives; irritation represents the least of our suffering. Irritants fall into two categories: those whose overwhelming self-regard makes them oblivious to the harm they cause you and those who are challenging your sense of proper thought and behavior. You should pray for the former and engage in self-examination for the latter.
Yes, I guess there is also a positive way to look at the irritants in life. For example, a lot of people have better careers or friends and other surprises because what they already had didn't work out. Thanks for a good post Caer!
