I'd like to write something new and fun. But I'm drawing a blank. How do you draw a blank? Is it the simplistic beauty of the blank page?

Appalled By the State I Live In/California Unenlightenment

Rate: 10 Flag

This will be a short rant.

Since it all seemed so clear to me. Equal rights are equal rights for all.

The definition of minority means that they deserve protection from the majority.

The court found away around this and voted they couldn't overturn the unpopular vote on a state constitutional amendment.

I'm very disappointed in this state and the people that voted for prop 8. Many of whom are minorities themselves, voting to take rights from a minority.

Further, separation of church and state was abused, violated. Since the money to back prop 8 came from the mormon and catholic churches, disrespectfully. Tolerance as long as you're like us, oh, and we demand you tolerate us too.

Good going... do unto others as you would have done unto you?

I'm sure there will be more eloquent posts.

I just wanted to commend a step backwards by a state claiming to be progressive.

I'm disgusted.

Update: It has been brought to my attention thet the California Supreme Court may have set this up for the U.S. Supreme Court.

By upholding the 18000 marriages unanimously and following the state constitution and upholding prop 8 they have created inequality of class within the class.

It was suggested this was disguised brilliance. That it sets up a day of reckoning in the United States Supreme Court, which can overturn the people's vote on prop 8 and defend the minority.

A power the CA Supreme Court did not have.

I hope they're right.

I was so sure, so hopeful, that the courts would defeat prop 8 and restore my faith in humanity (a little) I sat in shock checking different channels and surfing the web to see if this was a hoax.

Alas, it is a hoax, perpetrated by those that would have us believe that some are more equal than others.

And some people wonder about the name of my blog...suicidal utopia.
am sure things would be fine at some point when they realize they cannot play to win or be kings by leaving people out of the arena and you must understand the fear: it is very real, two men together is powerful, can be lethal ;)
rated bec the rant is really short and articulate lol.
Thanks Rolling.

I updated this post with a little ray of hope...
Again... my state Connecticut is one of the good states today.
In spite of this setback I think that gay marriage is on a forward track and it won't be all that long before it will be settled law, in every state. By the way, I know a guy who was married to a woman for years, except that he didn't like her that much so he cheated on her with men. Ahh, the sanctity of marriage.

Thank Mr. Mustard and Roger...

The sanctity of marriage indeed.
My comment from another post:

There's a protest going on in my head. I'm not just angry because I have a lot of gay friends.

I'm angry/disappointed at many of my fellow humans, some of which I vehemently disagree with on how to to treat your fellow man.

Are we really the same species?

Another of my comments from another post (I'm not trying to bump up my comments) I'm trying to save my thoughts in case I may want to write on this topic again):

It appears as though religion rears its head yet again. Stifling our rational and emotional growth.

Emotionally we're mere children with better toys (technology).

Fundamentally we've been mired in thoughts worthy of a children's book of fables for thousands of years.

This is not just about a single issue, it's about breaking free of the rusted chains that demand you don't think for yourself... "the answers are all here. Do as we say, do as we say god says..."

This appalling decision and the previously mind-numbing vote only serves to highlight why human advancement/growth from our collective childhood has been stymied for eons.

Jay, just for the heck of it, read my post which has excerpts from the actual court decision. The issue was narrow--was this an amendment to the constitution or a revision. The court held it was an amendment. But, I'm still not sure that I agree with their rationale.
I hadn't heard about the "disguised brilliance" angle, but that would be quite a twist! Of course it might take a long time to be resolved, but that would be quite a stunning outcome.

In the mean time, I still think someone should determine which conservative groups put the most effort into this, and then get a list of businesses owned by members of these groups (Catholics and Mormons) and organize boycotts and other tactics against them.
Not a bad idea fins...
Thanks John... for the positive thoughts and the positive words.

Too bad you're not on the bench.
"Live and let live" doesn't seem like a complex concept to me. It's sad that certain (religious psychopathic) individuals cannot bear the thought of people pursuing happiness. Their hysterical insecurity over the latest in a long, long line of false gods is pathetically sad.
Agreed... it is definitely sad and many other things.
