Getting beyond one of the far-right's shills, Glenn Beck. Let's just look at who Glenn works for: Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch is a modern day robber baron and part of the moneyed class that has bought our government.
Ironically, the end of the 20th century and early 21st eerily mirror the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th with disrespect to robber barons.
Glenn's job is to keep the masses arguing about minutiae. Effectively keeping us divided over meaningless labels such as: Liberal, conservative, republican, democrat, etc.
Then he adds color and instills fear by associating people and/or causes with Hitler, Mao, Stalin, the devil, etc.
What I find sad is how easily people are led to the trough of stupidity and demand to drink. Some statements are so absurd, I weep for humanity's future.
I certainly lean towards a more humanist and compassionate approach than the conservative doctrine. But the trickle down my leg approach to the economy has already failed. It would seem somewhat Homer Simpson-like to keep touching the burner after you've burned yourself a few times.
So the answer, must be (as usual) in the gray area. A mix of doctrines, the application of intelligent, logical and civil debate. Or there is always anarchy and a full scale revolt.
Glenn's fear-mongering clearly serves his masters. If Glenn Beck were to spontaneously combust, it would cause me nothing more than a raging case of apathy.
Here a few things I see:
Our government is not representing us. What they say is irrelevant, their actions are what we need to watch.
We currently live inside the greatest propaganda machine ever conceived. Designed to keep us fighting over liberal v. conservative bullshit, while it's clear they are one and the same (beholding to big money).
Neither the hand-outs of socialism, nor the give the rich everything and let them dole out the scraps to the majority works. We need checks and balances to protect the interests of the people.
This should be the role of the government, alas, they have been bought-and-paid-for and now do the bidding of the moneyed elite.
Even the Supreme Court of douche-baggery confirmed this.
The ever widening disparity in wealth distribution and continuing flow to the top will eventually cause change.
The only time I hear news people screaming as though their genitals are in a vice is when a program is proposed that would re-distribute wealth to the peasants (you and me).
But holy batshit when the rich need money, 800 million is available instantly (also, 2.2 trillion in 0% loans from the Fed).
So, it is not Glenn Beck that bothers me, it's what he represents. A snake-oil salesman aiding and abetting the moneyed elite in keeping us from seeing the truth and demanding the government represent the people's interests.
That is democracy (in theory).
Our government currently could more correctly be called a monarchy or plutocracy.

Spudman: My overall point is that both sides suck. Obama has achieved mediocrity in healthcare and financial reform. Granted, congress has stymied his actions. They are telling us what a great job they're doing for us, while their actions betray them and who they're really doing a great job for.
I should've noted this article is in response to a local right wing, conservative friend and radio personality. Who kindly asked me to explain some of my positions.
