Most of us drive around bad areas of town. Hell, ghettos don't even exist anymore. The politically correct term "urban areas" cleaned everything up with the ease.

Our minds also drive around bad areas. Areas devoid of hope are not pleasant to visit in reality or the subconscious. Easier to avoid than to face.

In America some of us are taught we all have a chance to be President, that we all have the same opportunities. Neither is true.

I have lived and worked in ghettos, yes, they exist right here in America. (Granted, this was not a selfless act on my part. I did it for writing perspective and I could have left at any time. I meant to be a voyeur and ended up caring after 4 years. That's why I write the drivel you're currently reading.)

The people's lack of hope turns to anger when hallow promises of help evaporate into nothingness.

They're called deadbeats, yet they're just taking advantage of a system that has failed them. Just as the elite take advantage of the system for their advantage.

We, the people, in the middle are just placated and sedated enough to sit silently amidst the storm.

My own complete inability to help people in need led to an epiphany and a dark place I have no wish to revisit.

I now have a terminal case of "white knight syndrome" to offset my blind faith in the free market system. To say I'm conflicted would be fair.

If we (I'm not religious), Americans are a Christian Nation the evidence of our actions run contrary to the doctrine as I understand it.

There are no selfless acts. So, take joy in helping others in need.

What those on the bottom of the social strata need is hope. They're no more deadbeats, than the upper crust that continually robs us blind are saints. (proviso: there are bad people at every social strata).

It's like an upper crust drunk on wine, looking down on a lower crust drunk because he's drunk on hard alcohol. It's a matter of perception.

One side is in need, the other does it because they can.

People need hope, not false hope, but hope for a better tomorrow with actions to prove it.

We do not all have the same opportunities.

There are those that "have" at every level of the social strata.

Make yourself feel better and help someone in need. It's OK that you feel good about helping others.

There are no selfless acts.

I'm not asking you to be good, just take the day off from being a bad person. Go drink yourself into a stupor or simply read a book or just take a really strong drug, pass out and let the world pass you by.
