I Think I'm Divorced. But I'm Not Sure. UPDATED

Rate: 14 Flag

Here's a funny story. About divorce. I guess it's not so funny. Now that I think about it. But anyway...

My youngest son told me the other day, after I asked, that his cousin had delivered her baby. I knew she was due very soon. This cousin is my STBX's sister's adopted daughter.

My son says "yes, she did, but she already went home". Hmph, I say to myself. Thanks everybody for letting me know that. Just because I'm divorcing the man doesn't mean I'm divorcing the whole family. I was a bit hurt that no one told me.   Wait. What? I AM divorcing the whole family? I guess I'm still adjusting.

So today, I email my STBX sister-in-law, asking her about the baby. It seems she hadn't forgotten me, but had mistakenly sent an email to a not quite right email address.

And then she dropped the news. She "happened" to "notice" in public court records that some papers were filed with the court the other day. About my divorce from her brother. She wasn't sure what it meant, but said it would be nice when everything was done, so we can all move on.

Hmph again. News to me. So I go to the court website and look it up and sure enough, I see this:

07/23/2009FILE STAMP 7/22/2009, PROPERTY SETTLEMENT AND SEPARATION AGREEMENT

07/23/2009FILE STAMP 7/22/2009, JOURNAL ENTRY AND DECREE OF DIVORCE (QUIT CLAIM DEED)

07/23/2009Changed Case Status: From: PENDING To: CASE TERMINATED (SETTLED, NO JUDGE ACTION)

What does this mean? CASE TERMINATED. SETTLED, NO JUDGE ACTION.

I'm guessing it means that I've been divorced for 4 days and didn't even know it. Say what? How anti-climactic! How does this happen? Aren't you supposed to KNOW when you're divorced so you can celebrate?!? I am SO put out.  Why did my lawyer rob me of that opportunity? Bi-otch!!

I could have been celebrating! Like this!

or this

 I can't resist this one:

Ten Divorce Cakes

 but yeah, definitely this:

But noooo...Instead I was at home doing this:

and this

Well, when the kids go back to their dad's house, next week, who wants to celebrate with me? I've been waiting a long time baby! There WILL be a party! Hmph!

UPDATE: It's official! I am indeed divorced. I know you all were dying to know. :)

i guess congratulations are in order and you're right, the occasion should have been marked by something spectacular-like to let you know...sirens going off..firecrackers popping..confetti guns firing

and i really LOVED that cake picture...can you get them with the groom still standing?
I guess it was like a surprise birthday party that no one showed up to.

RATED......... I think
BTW - how was the baby?
You express the bitter and the sweet of your situation, most eloquently. Accentuate the positive, though, as much as you can, and drink a toast (to yourself) in your favorite tipple.
I'd love to hear live reports from THAT celebration. If I were you, I'd invite a dozen available men and no women. And alcohol.

Ha!
I'll take some of that cake. Sign me up for the party!!! My sister would really, really like that cake. I may have to snag it and send it to her.

Well, maybe the anticlimatic nature of the ending is more representative of some of the .. erm .. other parts of the relationship, at least in the later years.

Party on JL. Crack open the bubbly, bang the pots on the front step, go out to a strip club with your friends, make yourself whatever you want for dinner, and paint the bedroom ceiling purple...because you can. It's never too late for a good celebration. Congratulations.
A friend of my mother was divorced for 7 years and didn't know it. She had signed the separation papers, she knew that, but due to law in her state or town (something) it proceeds through to a divorce as long as no objections or requests are filed in a certain time period...she was still paying his bills because she didn't know!

btw, I love the cat picture...that's what it's like around my house too lol
Congrats, girl. I'll bring the champagne.
awesome news... just too bad no one told you!
how strange...
luvu!
Angus - yes, there should have been sirens or firecrackers or SOMETHING! And yes there are a bunch of "divorce" cakes out there. I was rather entertained by them. :)

Boomer - exactly like a surprise birthday party with no one there! And the baby is good. Thanks for asking!

Eva - this makes it even easier to accentuate the positive. And I'm also working on eliminating the negative.

Duane! 10 men? As if! Isn't this a celebration of divorce from a MAN?? I need ma girls! You naughty thing. (okay, I'll let you come)

JK - you're absolutely right. It is indeed never too late to celebrate! Thanks!

Alicia - 7 years?!? Yikes!

Deepcleav - Thanks and Big Hugs for years of listening to me bitch!

Dharma - sweet! Come on over!

Trig - yeah, I'm kind of bummed. But not too bad! Luvu2!

Jimmy - Ha indeed!
I got divorced and married on the same day once. So, I understand your surprise. I guess congratulations are in order but you might want to make sure...
I thought divorcing the family was part of the appeal. Hope you celebrate big-time. I had to do the whole standing-before-the-judge thing, and would have preferred your way.
Well, I say you get to declarer whatever day you want as your REAL divorce day. Pick next Friday and LIVE IT UP all weekend.

Do you have the decree? Does it include the words, "J Lynne now retains all the rights and privleges of a single, unmarried person"?

Could there be better words?
Divorces are like family gatherings. They take up way too much time and you are glad when they are finally over. Congratulations!
I love that cake :D and Congrats on your freedom!!
Dr. Spud - Say what? Married and divorced on the same day?!? I'd like to know THAT story!

Nora - You had to stand before the judge??? Yikes - guess I got off pretty easy! But at least you know when it was done. :)

Waking - I will totally have to pick my "day"! No I don't have the decree! I'm waiting to read those sweet sweet words...ahhh.....

O'Really - You're right! Waayy to long and waayy too much of a waste of my time. But I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

Julie - that cake is pretty awesome isn't it? It made me smile. Thanks!
