The power of silence. The dual personality of silence.
Sometimes silence is so welcome. So necessary. The silence of a quiet house at night, when the kids and pets are finally asleep. No more ringing of the phone, no more jabbering from the television.
The silence that falls when the last party goer leaves. The sigh of relief.
The silence of a feeding baby after waking in the middle of the night, hungry as a wolf.
The silence on top of the hill after the long climb.
But then, there's the silence that is not so welcome.
The silence in the empty house after the children leave for their father's house.
The silence after the argument.
The silence when that phone call, or text message, or email is not returned.
The silence on a Saturday morning alone, when no one wonders about you.

And yes, there's definitely a split personality to silence. Sometimes I'll be like "Geez I wish people would leave me alone" and then a month later I'm saying "Why doesn't anyone call or come by?"
