I always say that anything can happen to anyone anytime. There's no way we can prepare. I promised my husband I wouldn't go to Israel this year, but security there is good. Why didn't anyone question the young man walking in front of the movie theater in Aurora well before the show? We're afraid to be overly suspicious sometimes, but other times, airport security thoroughly searches a baby or an elderly lady's gift packages. There's no way we can make sense of it.
Could it be that this crazed, briliant young man cracked from trying too hard to realize his potential or that he became violently paranoid and angry at the world? Were "voices" telling him to kill? Did he have an alternate personality which he couldn't control? Had he been abused, bullied? Was he in need of psychotropic drugs or on the wrong drugs?
Right now, no one cares why because the evil, deaths, injuries and trauma done overwhelms us. Later, we'll try to figure it all out, as if that will solve the next tragedy. If it helps prevent anything, OK, but we know all the explanations in the world won't ever make life totally safe.
Let's treasure our time here and try to help each other survive.
