My daughter corrupting my niece

Rate: 6 Flag

letting your daughter bring her boyfriend to her babysitting gig-may not be the best idea!

Spoke to my brother-in-law the other night. He told me that their Nanny walked into their 5 year old daughter’s bedroom where she was discovered passionately kissing her Ken Doll. Wow! I didn’t know Ken dolls still existed. I had a Ken doll and a variety of Barbies. Each one owning real estate, private jets and one even had a luxurious Town House. I don’t recall making out with Ken personally, but my Barbies were very busy gals!! I digress…..

It seems as though my daughter engendered this  wanton Ken lust in the mind of my innocent niece. My daughter brought her boyfriend to help her with her two cousins, not to corrupt them! She adamantly denies that there was any hanky panky going on in front of the minors. My niece insists that they were kissing. She also has convinced her entire kindergarten class, including her teachers, that she has a 16 year old sister. Her family portrait and bio include my daughter as the eldest sibling. I truly appreciate magical thinking. I myself, use this mechanism before opening the door to my daughter’s bedroom or opening up my American express bill and trying on my skinny jeans on a Monday morning. I venture to say that my daughter will not be accompanied by her beau on the next babysitting adventure.

Wonderful post! Thanks for sharing :)
Oh...you make me giggle. That's a good thing. Thanks!
Great post. It's funny how in denial the great majority of parents are about the sexuality of children. Obviously, seeing your daughter with a boyfriend, even if they were just standing there as prosaically as the Ken & Barbie in your picture, stimulated the niece's imagination, and her parents are uncomfortable with the direction of her growing (i.e. up) which is, I"m afraid, not something that is going to get easier over time!
It's funny (and very sad) how many mixed messages children are sent by society every day: advertising, clothing manufacturers, pop culture icons (even for the pre-K set) are increasingly sexualised. And yet at the same time we refuse to give them any real information about sexuality. Kind of like putting the (increasingly young) kid in a shiny new sports car with the keys in the ignition but no driver's ed and then being surprised when they take the car out for a spin and almost inevitably have a couple of mishaps along the way.
I'm sorry, but that Ken doll looks gay. Am I the only one who thinks so?
