I read a poem by DH Lawrence today, cuz i was feeling brave..."Worm Either.Way",1929 Written 2 years after my mom was born. She defeated the worms by being cremated.
first line:"if you live along with all the other people and are just like them and conform and are nice you're just a worm..."
so far so good, but that's just the first line. you can't make a worldview out of one line of poetry, no matter how sweet it would be.

february 26! johnny cash would have been 79 today.
tony randall would have been 91.
worm food, i guess.
those 2 would have together made the perfect man, i bet alot of women might say.
.....................................................................................................
aha...i see Lawrence has a twist for us:
"and if you live with all the other people and you don't like them and won't conform
then you're just the worm that has turned
in either case a worm."
...............................................................................
A no-win scenario.
Me? I conform when it is to my benefit. Like not being looked at too closely. That is the best thing about conformity.
I often decide I won't conform anymore.
When this happens, I am spun out to a starless sky
a place of no light
and i try my best to get warm, because warmth and light are somehow interconnected, i know...some...ha.."Ring of Fire".....
I fall back to conformity but
I like to think
if I'm like Tony Randall, a man of infinite wit
and no damn way to peg down his sexuality
i will be fine.
...........................................
but my perverse nature brings me to the edge of reality, always:
i gotta keep reading lawrence and i know i am not gonna like it:
yep, there it is...
"the turned worm bravely boozes.."
and more, so much more...
.........................................................................................
i will read this fool in motley, so self-described, later, listening to Cash
and watching Tony
advise Doris Day on her
Rock Hudson romance.
..........................................................................................
i wonder what d.h would have made of Johnny Cash. Or tony.
I imagine he might say:
these 2 gentlemen,
i embody them.

Johnny Cash: “D. H. my man, I'd like to wear a rainbow every day, and tell the world that everything is o.k. But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back. Until things are brighter, I'm the Man in Black.”
not the faux silly young imposters
(we gotta admire our own influence on their punk asses, tho)
but the man with out color.
a colorful character nonetheless...
pretense, all is pretense...
pre- post apocalypse, to
use the tired "a" word.
words are tired.
i am tired.
luckily some storm in my head heeds me to jump over the edge
every now and then
and the cut worm..um...well, you know...
thank you for stopping by and dispensing much needed
common sense.
(not just about my overwhelming genius and all around
nice-guy-ness, ha)
but about the worms...
such symbolic creatures..they eat and make what they eat
into nutrition for whaveter animal or plant needs those
nutrients..
i don't fear worms. i am gonna get cremated soon as i kick off.
like mom. she had a horrid fascination with being eaten up.
irony plays her hand, of course: her liver failed from too much
drink
to keep away Conqueror Worm...
so toxins ate her up.
from dead cells.
toxin ? toxic?
thank goodness mentol cigarettes have been proven
to be beneficial.
peppermints, perfumes, mints..and
the stuff we trust our lungs to, too.
"I keep a close watch on this heart of mine.
I keep my eyes wide open all the time.
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds.
Because you're mine, I walk the line.
I find it very, very easy to be true.
I find myself alone when each day is through.
Yes, I'll admit I'm a fool for you.
Because you're mine, I walk the line.
As sure as night is dark and day is light.
I keep you on my mind both day and night.
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
Because you're mine, I walk the line.
You've got a way to keep me on your side.
You give me cause for love that I can't hide.
For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide.
Because you're mine, I walk the line."
The ring of fire was great but a man that will change his life and "walk the line" because of a woman does have an alluring quality. And so it is this song of his that I was always drawn to.
This is an interesting post as always James, so keep on writing.
worms dont lie or deceive or manipulate,
are rarely in doubt or are doubters
worms don't dither and
they live an honest, straightforward free worm life -
one worm also does not hate or criticize
another worm
or hurt just for the fun of it -
infact, in the present context,
I 'd much rather be a worm in worm world.
@ Chuck, when one jumps over the edge, one is bound to land somewhere - dead or alive.
Keep writing James. You keep us proles going with your whatever
