I HAVE DECIDED TO PROSTITUTE MYSELF TO OS

Rate: 20 Flag

A dear OS friend gave me frank advice: become more relevant. Search the internet for trends.

My idea of “trends” is Judeo-Christian mythology disguised as a tax break for puffed up or perverse sexually immature men.

  cruise

Or: the lingering stench of narcissistic post-modernism, imported mostly from our ancient enemy France, who once was an ally.  Back in Napoleon’s time. Sold us all that swampland that recently had a flood of seemingly biblical proportions.

Another disturbing trend: the continued relevance of this fine collection of poetry to literal minded momma’s boys. Another: the dull recreation of Jesus’s life and times by scholars with nothing but good intentions, but a dry way of talking. Unlike their subject.

Two more of my (former) trends, til my trendy galpal set me straight about what is worth my attention.

1.the sexual revolution’s disastrous outcome, well-chronicled by our patron saint bitch Camille Paglia.

2. the enormous benefits to today’s women of (1.)

Trending today:

Weiner…. Ok…he is another sexually immature male in power who has lately been humiliated and stripped of power. There is a conspiracy against such men, I think. Him, Edwards, Arnold, etc.  I think it is Clinton.

Ah, but Bill or Hillary? Good conspiracy theories could be crafted for either of them. I have dozens of them. If you’re interested, comment on this blog.

Hope you saw my “solemn promise” in red on my banner. It has replaced my favorite Blake quote: “if the fool persists in his folly he will become wise.” Been there, just finished doing that.

I made a public mea culpa last night. That I am mortified. Wow. So are 67% of other men. Of them, only 2-3 percent deserve it. The rest were fucked over by the MotherState. The entity that grabbed power from the Big Brother state, and now uneasily shares it in a coalition from a bipolar’s best delusion. Uh, mine.

The other 33% of men are socio or psyco-paths. Sorry . Tis true. And tis a trend.

Miley Cyrus was in the news. She is in trouble for some new ad, which depicts a “Lolita”.

Lolita is an interesting trend. She is in charge of street level politics.

The homeless remain a growing trend. Give em a cigarette, if you smoke.

Anti smoking is a trend.

In politics, debates are again trendy.  Obama oughta debate Oprah. Should at least contain civility.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sports Competitive sports are still a trend. (Forgot about Tiger, earlier, re. men brought down).

I like baseball. For no other logical reason than that my dad loved his Red Sox. One of the only ways he had to communicate with me. Sox talk. Also weather talk.

Speaking of weather, disasters are a trend.

In the news.

On what my de-facto Brother in law, married to my 60 yr old Head Start social worker sis, Suzie Q, who'll hand u yr balls if ya call a woman a girl or a gal..uh, he calls the “weather porn channel”. On tv.

Which they never watch. They only listen to satellite radio and NPR.

NPR in disgrace, too, I think.

Hippies trending well. Hippy dippy ones. Not hard core ones like Bob and suzie. hardly them.

Summing up, disgrace in in.

Grace is always in.

Just pull your head out of trends, to find it. Or: really really commit to trends, and read the mythic meaning.

1.1 "What is the price of Experience? do men buy it for a song?
1.2 Or wisdom for a dance in the street? No, it is bought with the price
1.3 Of all that a man hath, his house, his wife, his children.
1.4 Wisdom is sold in the desolate market where none come to buy,
1.5 And in the wither'd field where the farmer plows for bread in vain.

It's all a shuck and jive. The rich get richer, the sick get sicker and the poor bare the pain. Ten years of war, thousands of dead, tens of thousands of wounded.
"Vanity, oh vanity all is vanity", says the good book, I'm inclined to agree. It's all over but the cryin'
" It's all over now baby blue". I look around and I think we're done. Finished. Kaput. I know I am. Or it's just a bad case of weltschmertz?
Rated with vigor.
scylla,
it IS all over but the gnashing of the teeth for the evildoers.
Lake of fire, etc.
Remember, the travelling willburys sang,
"every day is judgment day"
Well, you have a unique voice and interesting observations and stories about life, which are all your own, JME. Just by being yourself and writing from your own perspective & experience & heart... that's what I love most about reading everyone here on OS.
exactly right, clay.
a good instruction book for life
you have just penned.
I used to answer every comment, an still do occasionally, but it took away from my time commenting on their stuff, so it's a trade off. The Clinton Con~piracy ~Yeah~I know that one~or the other one`some of them!
Trends. Hmmph. What will you be charging by the hour James, for philosophical banter and Dylan allusions?
How much for a shared listen of Leopardskin Pillbox Hat ?
When you list your prices I will ponder on Paglia and see it she is worth the discussion.
This could get interesting.
Sometimes I wait for that Hard Rain to fall. Mostly I just try to ignore the evil and not let it cross my threshold. The game is rigged and the real shits seem to win all the time.
Trends? Trending down; reduction in VA funding so we can care for our vets, the unemployment rate for returning Vets is 30%, the NFL is still on strike and my Redskins suck. God my Redskins suck, but I'm a sucker for lost causes.
scan,, i will keep up with them til i get in the range of 3 or 4
hundred. then : a 75 per cent policy.

bill theory: to get hillary elected cuz she a woman, not a man.he influential.

hillary theory: to get hillary elected.
oh rita, just a smile from a beautiful woman.
from you.

paglia cannot be objectionable to you.
don't see how.
how????
sorry about your redskins. just think of the real live redskins,
scylla, eke-ing out a living on this continent they stole
from us. who is their champion?
also, that reminds me: trend=genocide. still fashionable.

veterans need a veteran president, like abe lincoln or scylla.
ach, that is my least favorite dylan song. i wonder why.
Paglia is interesting yet the last years I feel she has centered herself on stirring the pot for attention grabbing rather than true discourse.
How this benefits me is yet to be seen. however, she can also be hilarious.
"For mercy has a human heart
Pity, a human face;
and love, the human form divine;
and Peace, the human dress." - Wm. Blake
Do you think it will ever be trendy
to quote William Blake?
How about Rumi?
how about in IM language
"M-HH
P-HF
L-HFD
P-HD"- Wm. Blake
or perhaps just "MPLP"
I like it better than LOL,
or BTW but maybe there is a place for WTF
GGT
rated with love (sorry RWL)
rita,
sexual personae if her only book is worth her existence
none of us are relevant. we are artists. poor too. shadow folk.

or, it's possible, we're supremely relevant in the historical sense, only we won't know it until we're dead. it's important to check the trends daily. ebbing and flowing. one of us might show up without taking out a mcdonalds with a double gauge shotgun. but it's doubtful.

the songs we create have to suffice. that's it. we are here.

schatten menschen. we should start a movement.
paglia is a douchebag. shes a feminist who hates feminism. AND feminists.

she'd probably like me calling her a douchebag. she'd call me a feminist.
romantic poetess!
take heart and courage from blake.
"i shall not cease in mental fight!"
(the anglican church made that little hymn trendy)
do not say,
shall it be so,
make it so.

like:
blake said, "i am a mental prince"
and
that could be mp.
monkey, from what i have read of yrs,
and camille's, you two are hardly enemies...
or do you believe in the feminists'
insistence that boys and girls are the same, basically?
or that society is a mixed blessing?
or that alot of poetry has sexual meanings?
or that egyptians loved the cat, with good reason?
or that harold bloom, a genius, gets alot of shit wrong?
or that gloria steinhem is a bit of a bore..?
etc

movement begun.
she can be juanita the dike mascot who never gets any sex,
self admittedly.
BED TIME. BT.
KEEP TALKING. KT.
COMMENT AS MUCH AS YOU WANT. HA.
WILL GET TO ALL. WGTA,
RIP.
I try and stay as far away from trends as possible.

used to be the artist and the poet and the writer worked on their craft. if they were lucky an agent or pr man took it to the street selling it. now everyone is supposed to wrap art & business all up into one for the masses. can you paint your masterpiece while flogging it on high street?

I sell by day and play by night, I don't mix the two , it just don't feel right. sometimes we borrow sometimes we lend
it gets really boring to follow a trend.
How does Tom Cruise fit in with today's trends? Another ? Will the trend of "streaking" make a comeback? Shed thy garments and anoint your loins with malt liquor. Be careful what direction you tip the cow.
This is brilliant. xox
"Grace is always in." Excellent line. I'm going to keep that one in my back pocket this weekend.

Great post. I like how you made pop culture bend to your style.
The French suffer from what I call 'defensive arrogance'. During the French Revolution, they killed all the nobles, and since then they all aspire to be nobles, hence the chip on the shoulder. Yet narcissists, the French are not; they are the poster children for keeping it real. In fact, the French are so quick to put down any one who takes himself/herself too seriously. If we had any French influence, our children would marching in the streets protesting Medicare cuts, for example.

That said, I see you keeping it real; good job, my friend, well said. R
I like baseball.
I like blake.
I'd say, if we prostitute ourselves to a web site, we've pretty much done ourselves in. And, what's so wrong with that?! Seems you have a good vibe going on with this. That's ok in my book.
Yes, you did great with the trends. You took them and made them into a blog Emmerling style, which I was hoping you would do. Great Blog Emmerling!

R
There's a sexual revolution? Ohhh, you mean the one where all the politicians keep publicly exposing themselves or randomly boffing persons not their spouses. Yes, it's a huge trend, and it is revolting. Or maybe not.
I love how you took the trends and put your own spin and expertise on them. It was brilliant.
James,

You are becoming a better writer each and every day. Thank-you for sharing your craft with us.
You're our replacement for Charles Yoo on OS, who used to give us all the most searched for names and phrases from Google. And it seems to me you do a better job.
You are so much fun, James, and it feels good to 'be' inside your mind every once in a while - the world looks kind of large and manageable all at once from inside your mind, which is what I meant when I said "fun".
I agree with RomanticPoetess. We ought to be reciting Rumi's verses. But will they ever be trendy? doubt it; it would be more like a cult. The cult of the Open Secret of the Beautiful. Use your powers for Good.
P.S.: James. Under Bio you say: hoping to acquire one. Is that, as in searching for "a life." ? made me laugh. alas, I have no bio, too.
There's a pill available for that.
Scarlett, trends are clues to the pathology
of the Collective Mind.
As artists don't we
have a responsibility to
heal? To diagnose
and treat our
very source, our own
Universal Consciousness?
littlewillie: I would say pretty much anything you can
think of to bring back
will catch on.
For 15 minutes.
It's gonna be
a hot long summer and we
can only hope, re. streaking
robin: many thanx. xox
rei: glad to be in your pocket,ha
linda: in his fading glory days, in front of the tv, my old dad
knew two channels by heart:
lifetime
and
the weather channel.
"Very accurate' he would say.
He would jump into action everytime those radars
showed a green/red/yellow beast coming at us.
"close the windows!!! we're gonna get a thunder-boomer!!!"

Thoth, thanks for the brilliant analysis of the French
Zeitgeist.
Being a rube, I do not meet many foreigners,
but when I do, i have to spend 10-15 minutes proving
to their astonishment that I actually know anything about
European history or culture. Alas, turns out I usually know
more than them about their own countries.
What i do not know is
what they are like.
Defensive arrogance, hm?
catch22: good gal!
just cathy: "prostitute" may be too harsh a word. I meant, sell my soul to.

numen: many thanks for your support in all ways.

I was going to write a post ranting about this new awful word, "trending," that is everywhere now. CNN says, "Chloroform is trending on Twitter." Jesus, take the wheel!!

Great post and great comments.
We are all participating in one of the newest trends: blogging and social networking.
I am glad you whored yourself out James since this is a very fun post with great comments!
fernsy: thanks. Trending now is: trending!!! Ha, how postmodern can you get?

susie: i plan to make this little blog space of mine a great fun place for smart people to say really insightful inspiring things
WITH NO DAMN RANCOR
and if there is some,
then i shall put on my Clown Prince suit and
make even that
fun.
Nice addition to your Bio statement. Now you're cookin' baby. Love visiting and reading and writing here: Why, even" Old Roomy" would like it, after a few flasks of fine persian wine?
i'd pay for the vino.
to pick that fella's mind would be a fine diversion
from picking the minds of overly emotional Americans.
Did he not write,
"we oughta study the silence
in our head when our throat
is squirming to speak"?
no i did,ha.
