For any of you damn fools out there who don’t see what’s going on here at our beloved Salon, here is a clue:
We all know that there is a fine line between violence and sex
We should know that above all lesser truths. It explains a lot. Like life, the universe, and OS.
We suffered emotional violence recently.
Or so I’m told.
(I don’t follow the dust-ups too closely. They remind me of my beloved cat M. being constantly chased by
her ‘big brother’ feline she grudgingly shares the universe with, cornered , suddenly howling in panic when he traps her. Fur flies. But they have been at this for six years now. Often she instigates it. It seems like the end of the world when it happens, but for them? What is it like for them? Wouldn’t M. miss the action if her nemesis was truly gone?)
Now it is, well I can’t say ‘makeup sex’ unless I am strictly
interpreted
as being metaphorical….
……………………
Then again, everything is a metaphorical event.
Every damn experience.
…………………….
This makes me wonder: what is life
a metaphor of?
…………………..
Easiest answer: our endless ego-games.
…………………..
Nothing wrong with playing games as long as you know
it is a game.
………………………….
Reminder: the rules are fixed.
The first will always be last,
And the last first.

with a Master Game Player.
or a Mistress who derives her power from the Goddess herself,
who is a bit naughty in her Kali form,hm?
Goddesses simply rule
If you try to play a game with them
they will rule you to a time out
until you see
they only care
about love
If you are mean and nasty to them
they will rule you to little tiny pieces
with their very sharp tongues
then lick you back to health
so you can honor them again.
Just my humble opinion, of course
but I never mess with other Goddesses
and the junkyards are filled with those
wannabes
who have tried to mess with me
and are not ready for love
rated with love
in the very flesh with a god
woman
or
man?
ha y not
it is all inside
I always try to think the best in everyone and then someone sticks a needle in me.
But that is okay I sew myself up and keep on trucking. But I send my truck down a happy road. No sense in sticking on the one full of potholes.
HUGGGGGGGGGGG

Sometimes life is not a metaphor, it is just how it is.
As Hemingway said in "A Farewell to Arms", they throw you in the game, don't tell you the rules and kill you as soon as they catch you off base.
Ego driven indeed.
Rated.
Great essay!

No makeup sex
In the literal sense.
The metaphorical kind
Leaves me so unsatisfied.
but why do we
have to wait
for the fight
to have the damn
make-up sex?
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'
I don't know why I love you
but I do.
note: did you ever try to guess what a post was about by just reading the comments?
Or so I’m told."
Emotional violence? Someone actually said that? Metaphorically I hope.
Good post Mr. Emmerling.
Usually what you're seeing isn't what you're seeing. What you're seeing is a residual issue. I have learned there is ALWAYS another issue at play. ALWAYS.
My way of engaging is to watch, mull it about and then do a blog about what I've observed. I can't help myself, it's too fascinating not to. If a friend is one of the principals, I am doubley engaged. I watch how people handle themselves, observe whether they argue their points or attack.
After a few of these I have come to the conclusion that should a dustup occur we should engage using some of the Marquis of Queensbury rules for boxing:
No wrestling or grabbing about the waist.
No shoes or boots with springs allowed.
A writer hanging on the ropes in a helpless state, with his toes off the ground, or silent for 24 hours shall be considered down. No kicking of dead horses.
Except when we do. ;)
Interesting you mention the Marquis of Queensbury (who indeed wrote the boxing rules) in a string about make-up sex. Imagine his angst when Oscar Wilde sued him for libel after he called him a "soddomite" at OW's club--OW was annoyed he had misspelled it. OW was fighting and having making up sex with his son Lord Alfred Douglas. Jude Law played Lord Alfred and it was his break out role in "Wilde" with Stephen Fry channelling OW. Great film.

1. Based on the development, emergence, and enforcement of norms and values.
2. A social phenomenon. One that I propose is essential. A feature, not a bug -- as people in software development say.
3. Appear to be highly divisive. In fact, they are both divisive and integrative.
4. Aren't driven by the weaknesses of individuals but by the nature of groups. That is, there is plenty of psychopathology to go around, but social facts can't be explained away by appealing to human weakness. Humans tend to be more or less constantly moral and constantly flawed. Attempts at reductionism just confuse things.
