a poetic take on bipolar disorder,

Rate: 26 Flag

Synchronicity is the goal , here in the temporal  world.

Absolute magic , a conjunction of inside & outside.

I do it daily.

I lose it .

I regain it.

……………………………………………………………………..

We live in  Space and Time.

Both are real things, as Einstein labored to prove,

With math, but,

what did he mean?

How does it relate to my now?

……………………………………………………………………………

He said, faster you go, slower your time is.

Your subjective time stretches out.

To you? No.

To an “observer” who is not moving as fast as u.

This observer sees your time as taffy-like.

…………………………………………………………………………………

My revelation today was: the observer

 is you.

Your other you,

the one up hard in your head editing everything.

The one stuck in conventional time & space.

………………………………………………………………………………………

I am a mess. I am childish, impatient, and full of insistent impulses that require immediate fulfillment. Yet I am also the observer of these impulses. I am dual. I know this because there is a Voice in my head. Telling me things.

As the observer, I want my other half to cool it, slow down, be mellow.

The crazy impatient me

Hears this but continues to follow instinct.

The observer decides instinct is a dead end.

…………………………………………………………………..

The observer can take over and make you a paltry presence, a wisp of previous action,

A watcher, not a doer.

And yet this is what is needful for you.

for a short while.

……………………………………………………………………….

Watching and seeing what it’s all about is educational.

When the

Burst of energy comes again,

It will include the lessons of the watching.

………………………………………………………………………….

Now it is watching & acting, in a pendulum phase.

Bipolar. Two poles,

at the same

time.

We're all a mess, and I'm sure it can be trying to swing from one pole to its opposite.
While it's good to step back and look at oneself, it's best to glance back first and make sure you're not on the edge of a canyon.
More people should take a step back and observe. Thanks for the peek inside.
Congratulations on reaching the level of observer! Maybe you can teach me your method.
You have much self awareness.

Beautifully honest and touching ~R~
Tug of war between super ego and id, with each needing the other. Makes sense.
"The observer decides instinct is a dead end." HAHAHAHA!!!
Boy have I learned that one too! I have the scars to prove it, sigh.

"Watching and seeing what it’s all about is educational."

We live and learn don't we James? Sometimes we learn watching others, sometimes we have to repeat it, but we all live and learn.
Fine post, but keep one thing in mind: Even the Earth is bipolar.
The witness Self seems a higher Self
(to me any how)

I wonder if bipolar is limited to the bipedal?
Or if it exists elsewhere in the animal kingdom

I am quite familiar with the condition,
though not myself, through someone close

I worry about the meds
though some say a godsend
still, I wonder ...

you seem to deal quite well, Jimmy
either that or are a master
of disguise

"Einstein disguised as Robin Hood
With his memories in a trunk
passed this way an hour ago
with this friend a jealous monk"
(just made a comment that disappeared) OS buggers perhpas.

Great poem. I admire your "chair" that you now can sit in and observe yourself as you go about your thinking day. You have a marvelous way of making bi-p "visual" (without x-ray glasses!)
I always admire the level of thought in your writing, Maestro; and I am proud that I understand; it is magic. R
Yeah, yean, we are all a bit bipolar, but that is no excuse to ignore the suffering that true bipolar disorder causes. Well done, James. R
I am of the opinion that bipolar 2 is a dubious construct. I do think bipolar 1 and schizophrenia are true maladies, but depression and bipolar 2-- very ambigous, to me, how they really qualify as "illnesses."
You make perfect sense to me and many here so you got to wonder who the crazies are sometimes. Everytime you discuss yourself in terms of bipolar this or that I blanche-- because I sincerely don't believe that the word sick or ill applies to you and those like you(highly self aware and brimming with intelligence and energy etc.)
I never have been diagnosed with bipolar, but I'm sure I've given that impression, at times, when something overenthuses me.
I'm a Wheel waycher and a Dewers, straight up. Einstein is about to be proven wrong - there are things in this universe that move faster than light. If (not-so) Fat Albert's theories were correct, that would mean that they are tapping an infinite (in amplitude and duration) power source or that their mass is zero. They aren't and it isn't. That's they way it is with physics, though...a series of interim theories which are bound to be disproved until someone finally hits on the elusive theory of everything.

I have a theory of everything - it's all shit. (you seem like one of the most balanced people in here, man...you've learned to cover it well.)
We all have two poles, I think, and my daily struggle is to stay close to the equator where synchronicity blossoms.
So poignant and honest and true. And John's right, even the earth is bipolar, so it lives in all of us. Just much more painful for those who live it every day.
I think we all have other voices in our heads. I have entire conversations in my mind sometimes! Hahaha!
I love how poetic this is!
From the comments, I can tell I'm not the only one who feels the pull of doer and observer. It must be the way we're all built but the meshing of those gears is where the difference lies. Great post, james.
This was incredible, both for your comparison to bi-polar disorder which is difficult at best to grasp and for your unique approach to human nature and all its intrinsic voices.

Especially liked, " ...faster you go, slower your time is."

And, "The observer can take over and make yo a paltry presence, a wisp of previous action..." Pow! That is hard core and so on the money!

Loved every word, James! This one especially talked to me this night...this night of the contradicting voices.
please be advised dear friends,
i have read everything here and thank u.
i thought this piece would sink and yet it did not.
i am evermore astonished by the power & glory of the os.
yALL WILL be getting a visit from me, soon. to you all, love
and hugs and all kinds of fun physical conduct.
This was beautiful and has left me with a lot to think about. I had a professor who said poetry was meant to be a challenge, a knot to untangle - and take pleasure in untangling. I'm going to do some untangling and I thank you for it.
I have been telling myself stories
about who I am
from the point of view of an observer
someone who thinks they know me
but I am sure they do not
If I could just give them a name
and be sure they are not me
and don't have my voice
then I can tell them to buzz off
or like Cee Lo says: Forget you
I would not have to listen to them any more
or take them seriously
what a brick off my back
thanks for really cool poem
got me thinking

I like what you said about bipolor. Now it is watching and acting in a pendulum phase. Bipolor two polls, at the same time. I never heard it put that way. you described it well it makes a lot of sence. I loved it.
