The goal to be reached is the mind’s insight into what knowing is.

Impatience asks for the impossible,

wants to reach the goal without the means of getting there.

The length of the journey has to be borne with, for every moment is necessary;

and again we must halt at every stage, for each is itself a complete individual form.

I am as white as they come. Whiter than Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan.

Yet I have this nagging fear of being hauled away: arrested, maybe. Or ‘committed’ to a hospital. Or …just told to ‘’tone it down’’.

I have lived my entire life like this.

~

At two and a half yrs old, I fell onto a steam radiator and received burns on my chin. Mom says I screamed all night for 6 months as they healed.

They never healed. My red mark of shame.

Shame for what? For not being perfect. So many youngsters in my elementary school were fine physical specimens, and knew it, and knew it was important. They called me ‘’scarface’’. The bullies.

I retreated inside.

Far inside.

And never emerged.

~

Anti Semitism seems to be an issue. Why would that be? I have researched this culture and find it to be admirably erudite. They like to read and think about what they read, as do I. We read different things, that is for sure, but I live by the adage, “every book can be your bible.”

I got a lot of bibles lying around gathering dust.

I used to do nothing but read, and now i seem to have lost my attention span.

I can read two or three paragraphs, then I get bored or sleepy and wanna jump on the computer to share the amazing insight I was just given.

~

Jews?I think they are a little too o.c.d. regarding all their holy rules, but it is not my business to criticize how someone makes this world a safe place for their sanity, and the sanity of their children.

I got my own rules, certainly.

~

I gotta say, some of them are Jewishey. Some Christianey. Some Buddhistey.

~

I live for the now. The here. We have all heard that we should live in the now, and we make tremendous efforts to do so. But remember the here, as you access the now.

This ‘here’ is a makeshift stage for your ego. Whatever fills it up is what you have arranged, through many years of life, to fill it. It is eminently changeable. It can also be very static. You can get stuck in a certain here/now that gives you a sense of security. Even make rules for yourself on how to make it permanent.

That is like catching the river in a bucket.

There’s the water, but it aint moving anymore.

~

A lot of religions are like that. Philosophies too.

They demand to be a still pail of water you have captured from the raging river, with all their rules and injunctions and whatnot.

But if a religion or a philosophy doesn’t give you the Lift, the Upsurge, the Cosmic Epiphany, the splice of satori, or the union with the Godhead, I say…put it down.

And then rethink it, rewrite it.

That’s actually what the Jews have been doing for thousands of years. Rewriting.

~

What is ‘’absolute’’? In other words, ‘’absolutely true?”

Best definition of it I got, and I got a lot is:

“THE TRUTH IS THE WHOLE.

THE WHOLE, HOWEVER, IS THE ESSENCE

WHICH COMPLETES ITSELF

THROUGH ITS PROCESS OF DEVELOPMENT.

OF THE ABSOLUTE,

ONE MUST SAY IT IS ESSENTIALLY A RESULT..

IT   BECOMES

WHAT IT TRULY IS AT THE END…

ITS NATURE: TO BE ACTUAL,

TO BE SUBJECT,

TO BE THE BECOMING OF ITSELF..”

~

Zen and Buddhism and even good mystical Christianity and Jewish Wisdom puts it less rationally, more succinctly. But this appeals to me.

Peace and Love.

Become.

"..Become..'', so difficult cause although you are all beings in being, the most of us never can become our true being. Another excellence, James, rated.
Nice words my man. I could do nothing but read the last few weeks and caught up on my reading, or some of it. I still have half-read novels laying around, but I put a hole in the stack. It's nice to be back in the salt mines.
"I gotta say, some of them are Jewishey. Some Christianey. Some Buddhistey." Love it. Thanks, James.
stahi: just be, dear lady. we are always
becoming
even when it seems we are going nowhere.

scanner you have been sorely goddamned missed.

firechick: all is relatively true, right? all has hints of truth.
it is our duty to grab the good stuff . from these
damn religions and philosophies.

I'm still trying to get one of my hands to clap - either one, actually. You always make me think, Jim. I think that's a good thing.
the sound of one hand clapping is heard often
and we all take it as a kind of
excuse to go wild and crazy.

that is cool. but there are..uh...rules?

even in spontaneity is an innate sense of what is right and wrong.
or am i deluded?
James, yes I agree. There is good stuff, and that's where we should focus. That's what I like about you, you're always looking for the good.
Lovely and insightful. One of the wisest priests at my church railed against those that take the attitude of an unchanging bible, one that is taken as absolute, inerrant and at face value. He said something like, "That doesn't leave a lot of room for Holy Spirit to move among us... when you put it in a box like that."
Great post, my friend. R.

I fell into a steam radiator when I was little too. Lucky for me, my scar is on the back of my head. Or maybe not--because you turned out mighty wise.
the one hand clapping talk , here, now,

what Paust introduced

is a good one for the morning:

you talk about hearing one hand clapping:

'the sound of one hand clapping is heard often
and we all take it as a kind of
excuse to go wild and crazy.' , whereas,

Paust talks about getting his one hand to clap

(either one);

i find hearing one hand clapping inferior

(in terms of going wild)

to Paust's one hand actually trying to clap;

more breezy
Aren't real Truths rather simple, like the idea of Balance, Loving and Being Nice, Forgiveness, Listening, Observing. I used to tell interns that one of the important things to know somewhere between their doctorate and practicing psychology is the simple statement, "Tell me more." Also, learning not to overinterpret, just notice what's there seems important to me. I think we all have Wisdom if we let it appear to us. Thanks for yours.
firechick: why would an honest traveller thru this vale of tears
seek anything but the good, the true, the beautiful?
the answer is : f-ing hassles.
from the outside.
rules.

propriety demands something new every minute.
i am sick of it. keep a low unemotional indifferent voice.
my advice.

bn........what a wise priest! uh, "catholickey'? or some other
splinter
denomination?

i shall get to u ume.soon.
Through: yes. Rules. Commands to halt the everflowing river of life…………

Jl; to be burned, sent to the fire, is horrific I guess. I do not remember it.
But the scars are still noticed.
By others.

“what happened to yer face?” is usually a voice of concern. Now that I am adult.

Ume..
Luckily we are talking of imaginary things when we speak of one hand clapping.
We deal in metaphors, and this is well that we do.. but a metaphor is
a jungle, fulla vines, clinging. They wish, these vines,
to bring you to the Answer.
They think they got it, god bless em.
They do, but then Truth is Relative, so the next thing is true too.
It is not a choice of WHICH is true of course.
It is a challenge to juxtapose things.
Words, images.
Some truths cannot be sayable . Like: “I am”

The jehovah said that, yes? “I am that I am?”

Jackie: that is the way to go. to open the door simply say
tell me more.

steel: right, but on?
emmerling:

okay, the metaphor jungle;
the jungle intoxicates

"...Rewriting..." each and every day, and the next day and and the next is our chance to get it right.
Wow. Thank you so much for this. I read your comment on another blog, where you said anti-Semitism bores you. While I've been a victim of it and seen other victims of it, it kind of bores me, too. How can people remain so stuck in prejudice about things that really don't affect them, especially in a country like the US, where freedom of religion is such a cornerstone of what the place is about - or should be, at least? Or France, where secularism is supposed to be the rule. I wish we just didn't have to worry about people hating others because of their religion. Thank you for this post - it shows the enlightenment I wish all people would have. Also, I'm very sorry for what happened to you when you were little. Kids can be awful towards each other. I'm glad you haven't retreated so far from the world as to not write - I'm so glad you're here to share your thoughts and words with us.
Jmac, you hit it. You got it. He not busy being born

also: He not being rewritten
is busy sittin being a menace to his self
and others.

Oh Alysa, I am fine. Good and dandy. Kinda sleepy lately is my only problem.
So bored by the world’s problems. There is an endless array of shit fucking us up, like racism and misogyny and xeno phobi and anti Semitism and of course all our own personal blah crap.

All is blah. Ha.
I am so world weary I could get drunk or maybe just go to sleep.

I aint sleepy. I sigh a lot.

The final solution to the world: a (restoring ) sigh.

Know that you are the Queen though. The Lady Restorer.
You make merry and make sense and make Os a safe venue and bring us our rationality.

Quite a bit to to, for a young waif like u!
You do it easily..
Just write.
I hate the word anti-Semitism for the philosophical quandary it puts one in. To use it, in part, implies Semitism is valid classification of millions of diverse people, tied together by the thread of association of Judaism. The word was created as an anti-identity to Aryanism, to replace the messier sounding Jew-hatred. To buy the part is a way of validating the whole. I would choose that word to describe the work of people who support Aryanism and Zionism (all stripes of it), philosophies of race/religion/god's chosen/justified violence. It goes way beyond having religious differences.

I love Seder dinners. As a guest to some really fine Seders throughout the years, I am moved by the continuity of the story, and the underlying message of family and peace. And I am also moved to see the diversity of people present. A friend in Denmark was married to a Danish Jewish man, and she was of Jewish heritage but raised Russian Atheist. She didn't know most of the history, and had to learn how to keep Kosher and celebrate. It was an honor, for me, to help her as she learned this to pass on to her newborn son. At the same time, I have had to ask my stepdaughters to consider their use of self identity as "half Jewish" when they do nothing to honor the faith and history. I have had to ask them to stop using offensive terms, even if they thought they were in jest. I am not indifferent.
I liked this very much. It's the same God... just different Names for the same Essence.
Ok Oryoki if ya gotta have a word for it
And that is part of the problem
Then that does well.

“ I am moved by the continuity of the story, and the underlying message of family and peace.”

In this movement, oryoki, you are what I call indifferent.
NOT DIFFERENT. NO DIFFERENCE.
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EMOTION.
IT IS UNION..

AS MIME SAYS,
just different Names for the same Essence.

WHAT, tho, is essence?arg and ay yi yi.
I like your idea of religions trying to explain the unexplainable through using the image of a bucket of water dipped into a raging torrent. Brilliant!
oh cc i stole that. amended it. cuz i loved it.
so many have said it before me, i cannot enumerate them.

zen folks. and alan watts especially. the proximate theft, ha.
You are a pretty wise fellow. Sorry to hear that you were bullied about your scar. Bad enough to suffer the injury, to be purposely tormented for having suffered is incredibly painful. Maybe some people simply enjoy tormenting those who have been hurt. Maybe they want me to look different or think or feel the way they expect me to, but I cannot be anyone but me. I don't understand it but fortunately it's not my job to understand it, my job is to be me and do the best I can.

Peace and Love are two of my favorite things.
l heure...
arent you the lucky lady!
my job is alas also to Understand.
It.
thank u.
One of the great things about America is that we don't insult our politicians because of the color of their skin; as Martin Luther King asked us pointedly to do: it is their character that matters, not their skin color. So I'm not digging the "white" comments about the GOP; reverse racism is still racism. And being a woman who has never had a female president represent me, I could be bitter, but I'm not. But enough, everybody with the Romney is White B.S. cuz it's racist and nobody is judging him by his skin color, like we're not supposed to, right? rated.
good. almost 3 hrs have gone by since the last comment;

they aren't coming back but even if they did, so what?

emmerling, i am blown away by O.Bowl’s

declaration “I am not indifferent”;

wow! that was unexpected if not quick for her;

okay so she wronged but

so often we are tempted (via OS comments)

to set up Proofs for own ego's personal stability, attempting to

spike practiced control as something wonderful

(something you never do)

when they are really frustrations showing thru

and are mere laborings under the illusion that

force or effort will solve difficulties.

Like you (not you emmerling) are above the flow or something.

Boring is this final destination thing.

There’s a saying:

Even the kokonee wish it would rain.
I thank you for being willing to tell your story here. And jlsathre is right. You did turn out wise.

Thanks for your kind comments on my shooting in my hometown story.
