Just as I was giving up hope, the following email arrived.
Dear Jamie,
I'm very pleased to inform you that the judges in the U of T Magazine Alumni Short Story contest have selected your story "Holiday Justice" for inclusion on the shortlist of five finalists.
Congratulations!
As a result of being shortlisted, "Holiday Justice" is eligible for our Readers' Choice award. We are inviting alumni to visit our website at www.magazine.utoronto.ca/short-story-finalists to read the shortlisted stories (posted anonymously for now -- we will reveal the authors' identities once the judges have made their picks) and vote for their favourite. The winner will receive a special prize from U of T Magazine. Of course, you are also still eligible to win the Grand Prize of $500 and the runner-up prize.
We expect to have a final winner selected sometime in late September or early October.
Once again, my sincere best wishes on a wonderful accomplishment. Thank you for entering the contest, and thank you for reading U of T Magazine!
Best,
Scott Anderson
