bonus:  super easy apple pie recipe, from yesterday:

BEST APPLE PIE

1 9 inch pastry
5-6 cups peeled, sliced apples
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Combine the above and pour into shell.

Top with streusel:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup margarine (not butter)
1/2 cup brown sugar

(smash together with your hands. if it wont make a crumbly texture, add a little more flour till it will)

Bake at 425 for 40-50 minutes.

The apple pie sounds delicious but that broccoli quiche is just so wrong on so many levels, I don't know where to start.

Pshaw, Torman. That broccoli quiche sounds yummy and nutritious. And all the apple pie needs, jane, is a scoop of Ben & Jerry's World's Best Vanilla melting on each slice.

I like the way you think.
torman, turns out its hard to get a good pic of quiche on the internet.....

and coyote - my famous ben and jerry's story. many moons ago (was probably 1984), i went to burlington to visit my friend at uvm. we went to the cool new ice cream shop called ben and jerrys. and i am so sorry to say that i had CHOCOLATE. bc i lacked any courage to try some fancy ny fudge super chunk, or any mint and oreo cookie - did oreos belong in ice cream? some vanilla on the pie would is perfect.
I love all of it: pumpkin pie, broccoli quiche and that apple pie with streusel. I just thawed out a couple of pie crusts because I was going to make an apple pie. Well, now I'm making two! YAY. I'm going for that apple pie streusel particularly...I've never done that..I'm always working on the two crust pie thing. But just a crust of butter and sugar and flour (and more butter and sugar)...mmmm...

I think tonight since he's working a later shift, I'll make one just for me! and another for the hubbins, doing the streusel with agave or a splenda agave blend. (he has glycemic issues).

nice.
Good recipe, but come on.....you gotta try making your own pie crust! It's actually pretty easy after you've done 2 or 3 and start to get the knack for it. It's the Cheap Bastid way.

I'll take one of each!
I'm holding out for pumpkin pie. ALthough apple sounds good...
Must have been the day for it...we just made some quiches yesterday!
hi youse guys,

nofrills - its really tasty. last year i couldnt get it crumbly and i was all mad and feeling thwarted, and the bf had to tell me to add more flour....

cheap bastid - i am going to soon, i swear. two reasons: 1. i want to be able to. 2. this premade crust is actually, noticably, inferior. i will let you know how it turns out when i do. :-)

spotted, me too! breaking my "sweets only once a day" rule for this pie.

brenda, i like pumpkin better too. for that we just follow the recipe on the can, and its pretty tasty.
and blue - we cross posted. i like a nice dense quiche. i think whenever i have the choice of something having a light fluffy texture or heavy and dense (like dumplings), i prefer dense. i think baking is in the air cause it turned chilly so fast!
Nothing like a warm apple pie fresh out of the oven, after partial cooling! Love me some cheddar cheese on top as well! Yum!
Two guys are sitting in a restaurant, the waitress comes over and asks them what they want.

"How about a quickie" the first guy asks.

The waitress slaps him across the face and storms off.

The second guy leans over and says "It's pronounced Quiche".

ba da bum.
Ooooohhhh pie!....I do love me some pie!

What a coincidence - a co-worker just brought in a huge box of apples to share with the office so now I can run home tonight and try your apple pie recipe. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
jane, the Ben & Jerry's vanilla is just plain amazing. It tastes so much like the ice cream we made as kids with my grandfather that one bite has the power to transport me back 40+ years in time.

I think there's a post in there somewhere.
I used to make the best crust from scratch, then I found ready made...crap....Yours sounds delish.
