All There Is To See: Museum Photographs

Last night at dinner, Mark and I were discussing cities we would like to visit in the future. Mark has done extensive traveling throughout his life, I have not. We would like to take one real vacation each year (in addition to "staycations" which I also like), and I'm a planner, so…

Some on our brainstorming list: Edinburgh, Scotland; San Juan, Puerto Rico (again); Buenos Aires, Argentina (again for him, first time for me); Washington DC (again); Atlanta (again, Mark lived there for a while); San Francisco (neither of us have been to California, how can that be!); somewhere in Ireland; London (again for Mark), and also our regular trip each year to Philadelphia and a nod to NYC where we have visited separately and together in the past.

So, we were talking about the pros and cons of various places and how we would like to spend our time while away. I said I would like to visit the National Gallery of Art again as well as the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires (they just had a 15 million dollar rennovation) and also the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.

I got to thinking about the museums I've visited and photos taken, and thought it would be fun to share them with you. (I always ask for permission, or a definition of the museum's rules, before taking photos.) I'm sorry I don't know the artist or date on some of these pieces, but perhaps you will enjoy seeing them anyway.

Janice, you have seen some excellent museums in your travels! I hope you are also able to see the museums on your list as they are top notch, too. Just in NYC it can be tough to keep up with all of the current exhibits in various museums, let alone find the time to travel to other cities to see what's currently on view!

What a great idea for a post, and what excellent photos! It's interesting to see what images you chose to capture on film. That Chagall is gorgeous (he's one of my favorite artists) - but I feel crazy; the Met is my favorite museum in the world, and when I lived in New York I used to go there almost every weekend. I recognized most of the art you showcased from there, but not that Chagall! I'm glad you brought it to my notice. Looking at art we love is like having a delicious piece of chocolate - so thank you for that.

As for your vacation plans, I know you and your husband will make the most of wherever you go. I hope you'll take pictures of the art you see, and share those here, too!

designanator: When I was looking up links this morning to the museums, I was happy to see that the Penn Museum has many many photos of their collections. I can't imagine what it would be like to live in NYC and have access to so much to see and do. We loved our last trip there. Thank you for stopping by.

Mary: Thanks for visiting. Hopefully my photos will improve since I have a better camera now.

Alysa: I just realized I had two photos under Philadelphia that Mark pointed out to me were at MOMA. I've moved them. … I love Chagall too. When I walked into Mark's condo for the first time ad saw a Chagall print over his fireplace, I was so happy to see his taste in art matched mine. … In looking at the photos I took, I was surprised to see how most were of figures. I love to see how different artists and different time periods represent the human figure. But in my own photographs, I am drawn to taking shots of landscapes and my favorite thing to paint? Abstract shapes and bright colors. Go figure!

What a lovely post with samples from various museums. I am partial towards museums of archeology and anthropolgy myself and love to see artifacts from the past. I hope you will get to see all of these and some more. I've sent you a pm with a few links which I hope may interest you.
